Allright, I have a few questions about a computers specifications. First i'm asking because I'm always ready to learn. What I was wondering was, what is the minimum requirements for using a computer for karaoke? I mean I know that the karaoke tracks has graphics too but what could you realistically get by with? My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 8600. It has a DVD R/W drive, a 40 Gig hard drive, 1.7 processor, and 512 Ram. The hard drive is no biggie as I can go with an external on that. I'm going to check and see if I can upgrade my Ram. If I can upgrade my ram to 2 or 4 would the processor be enough? I'd love to get by with the one I have instead of buying another one.

for most programs your processor is good enough. The biggest question does your laptop allow for the second display? If you can add ram, great but there are programs that will run on what you have now. I am running Compuhost without any hiccups on a laptop that has a processor close to yours and the same amount of ram.

I like to hear that. I just checked and I can replace my two 256 memory chips or whatever you call em with two 1 gigs for a total of 2 gigs. Like I said I can go with an external hard drive. Now on to the video part of it. What should I have. My laptop has an S video out on the back. I'll be honest, either I haven't been paying alot of attention or just been looking over this on this forum. Usually all I've been paying attention too is the general computers requirements. Just forgot all about the video. I'm going to order my ram later this week and probably a hard drive. Any suggestions on these, and what do I need for the video? Oh yeah another reason I'm wanting to keep this computer is it's running Xp.

You can get a new laptop now for $400-$500. No sense spending any money upgrading an old laptop that's going to nickel and dime you, it's a waste of money. You'll be much happier with a new laptop and it will work much better. I can understand wanting to try to make the old one work, but if you can sell it for $100 or $150 or whatever on ebay you'll be much further ahead. Most Karaoke programs work fine with Vista now too. Anyway, just my suggestions. Good luck.

You are good to go "as is" although I do reccomend the memory upgrade you are thinking about and possibly an external sound card.

Sounds like you're good to go as is. I would suggest an external soundcard as well.
