Post subject: | Cable Question |
I went into my local music store to purchase three ¼" TRS cables to hook my Lexicon MX-200 into my Mackie CFX-12. The salesperson sold me two ¼" 'instrument cables' and said TRS wouldn't be necessary. The MX-200 manual says ¼" TRS balanced or unbalanced. What did this guy sell me, and are they going to work, or do I need to go back and get my TRS cables. |

Well they will work, however not sure why he wouldn't sell you what you wanted especially since the Lexicon's 1/4 AND the Mackie's AUX/EFX sends are both TRS (balanced) capable. I would tell him give you what you originally asked for. |

Yeah, I was a little surprised. He's like, I'll sell 'em to you, but they're expensive. They were only about 5 bucks more each. I'm not a cable expert so I deferred. Thanks for the advice! |

In a 19" rack all the gear has a good common ground. The rack should be connected to earth ground or the third green wire. In a slant top rack run a ground wire from the rails in the top to the other rails. In a permanent installation all racks are connected with a heavy ground strap and the cables run thru a floor channel. In the racks and where exposed the cables are wrapped with nylon lacing twine. What does this have to with karaoke? Not much but it sure looks professional and cable connections are not being stressed. With rack inter-rconnections balanced is not necessary. In fact some of my adjacent units I have hard wired on one end with a short cable. |

Thanks for the advice! This I don't get. The entire cable should be $5.00 or not too much more, not $5.00 more than some number of dollars. What kind of store is this? I buy these, which are quite adequate: http://www.speakerrepair.com/Merchant2/ ... -qua-patch TS will work, but why would you have all the length of an instrument cable? |

I Buy the instrument cables with a 90 degree molded plug, cut to length and hard wire the other end into another unit. Example is the top view of mixer. These have a plug on the other end but shows the neatness. |

Yes, except usually instrument cable is longer and more expensive. And it has, or should have, better strain relief at the connectors. |
