I have pretty basic needs as far as DJ. Most of what I do is Karaoke, but I also need some DJ capabilities. I've experimented with winamp and I was wondering if anyone here is knowledgeable on Winamp?

Specifically I want to be able to do smooth fade out and then fade in to the next song and I want to be able to do this manually or automatically because sometimes I need to step away from my equipment to talk to people etc.

It can also be another program if anyone has any suggestions, but I'm looking for free like Winamp or close to it.

I really like a program called Quitessential player, but I can't get the crossfader to work properly.

I also have tried a program called Spider player, but I'm not 100% satisfied.

I was planning on buying DJ Mix Pro which I have recommended to other people and if I can't find anything better then that's what I will end up with. It's 20 Euros which is a great deal.

I am a KJ only, and I am considering getting into DJ work to compliment the Karaoke.

For the basic stuff I do, DJ Mix Pro is fine. If you are looking for something that is infinitely variable and can mix, beatlock, beat adjust, and cross fade on the fly, FOR FREE, you might want to look into ZULU DJ SOFTWARE.

It rocks! It is much more capable than DJ Mix Pro, but it is also a little more complicated, and it will take me a while to figure everything out. It might not be so much of a learning curve for you. It is very polished and works great!

Good luck, let me know what you think of Zulu.

Thank you, thank you! You guys both always have great information!

I haven't tried the winamp plugin yet. I downloaded Zulu and installed it right away on one of my XP computers and it looks great. It seems simple to operate, the sound is very good too. I'm not finding how to make a play list and if there is auto mixing from one song to another. I need to play with it.

Ok, I DLed the winamp plugin and tweaked and tweaked, but I couldn't get it to make the transition between songs sound right, it was close but no cigar.

I updated my program Quintessential player which I could never seem to adjust the auto crossfading on in the past. After installing and uninstalling several other programs, cleaning the registry and restarting the computer a few times, now the crossfading on Quintessential player is working smoothly. I really liked this program in the past, but without the smooth transitions between songs I had stopped using it.

Thanks guys. Download quintessential player and give it a try, it's a decent program.
