Post subject:  Lcd Monitor -update

I got the LCD and it looks awesome..and HIGH TECH as the customers at the bar said last night..so from that standpoint a GOOD BUY and a PRO.
Screen is bigger than my previous one and the graphics very legiable.
No CONS concerning the Monitor itself... The CONS seems to be in the stand I chose and the setup required.

The stand I got from Kcom - audio2000 - great lookng stand , But there is not way to just SLIDE the monitor on and off , you have to TAKE it off by removing screws and install it the same way ????...found it to be a real hassle setting up and tearing down. The stand itself is OK but not place for singers to put their drinks --WHICH OVER TIME IS A BLESSING but now they were putting on my table with me laptop--BIG NO NO ..so I had to keep telling them to put their drinks somewhere else.
NO need for any additional VGA cable as the one supplied was long enough qnd worked great. Need suggestions on the MOUNTING if there is any quick on off thingamajig I could get. OR I might be better off just using the LAPTOP stand and put on the HIGH TOP TABLE--attempting to post some pics

They will eventually train to not put their drinks on y our table, but YOU have to set the example. The Coors Lite bottle on the table with your mixer is a BAD example!
Yes, it's a different table, but they only see you putting drinks on the table with your equipment. They don't differentiate between the two, and to be honest, neither do I.
My policy is no drinks EVER (including mine) on tables with equipment.
That way, nothing bad can ever happen. If need be, use the floor beside you like I do.

Thos are nice, Mckyj, but I generally don't use mic stands, so won't work for me. Hope that they can fit in with Jam's outfit.

The picture is a little hard to see but is does this stand adjust at the neck?
If so can't you just pull the neck out and leave the monitor attached thus only having to slip the neck back into the stand?

Understand what you are saying but I don't agree completely, SINGESR Drinks don't belong on the table period, Yes I do put my drinks on the table and if something spills -I'll have to live with it..I'll take my chances with ME

I also understand what you're saying, but honestly, you're playing with fire. All it takes is some drunk to fall over into your tables and you're done. Trust me, it's happened before. That's something you're NOT in control of.
Besides, if you want to make it easier to train them not to dump their drinks on your tables, the best way is by example. If they never see a drink on it, much easier to get them in the habit.
Remember, drunks are like little children. They need repetitive training and they DO learn by example.
Much less headache, in my opinion, but then again, it's your head.
Cheers!

JAM it's great you haven't been burned to the point of being paranoid of anyones drinks on the table...yet.

Diafel, i also have the same policy as yours ( NO DRINKS ON rig TABLE) for multiple beer spills from drunks, anxious singers, group sing-a-longs, and even a few coke/water spills of my own doing over the years. It was NO FUN drying off the table, songslips, wiping sticky coke off of wires and de-scenting the rig days after from the mold that developed.

I do however let them put drinks on my book table..1000 repeated attempts to get youngones and party-tourists to not bringing drinks to stage never worked for me. And most singers use the beer AND mic-stand as a crutch to feel more comfortable during the instrumental breaks.

For the record..I've been burned before - There are no drinks allowed on the table - That's the standing rule. My last monitor stand had drink holders and I guess a few people are used to bringing their drinks up . This lat show I quickly reminded them to either leave that on the bar or put then on another table. I DO NOT ALLOW drinks near the equipment unless its mine and then usually always away from the laptop . Unfortunately as the pics show I set up on two high top type tables and thats it ... But I do appreciate the concerns

I think I'll be adding this to all my monitor setups. I already have one at home (it used to mount a 26" Vizio on the wall before I changed TV) but hadn't thought of using it on my monitor stand. I have the same stand as pictured on flickr and the monitor is permanently attached. I also have a flip up arm (upside down under cabinet mount) added to my rack for my control screen. Finally a clamp on table mounted touch screen songbook. All of these would benefit from a $10 quick-release mount adaption!

For those of you wondering, the quick release mount is still very sturdy and can still require a little 'English' to loosen - yes it would come off the stand if knocked over but you'll probably want your feet on the base of the stand when removing just the monitor.

Another benefit would be the ease of switching out the monitor if it fails... quick, someone chime in and say why these mounts are no good!!!!

I own a couple. The biggest downside is that they just kind of slide in there, and really have nothing to anchor them. You can screw in one or two screws to retain them if you can reach the place, but otherwise they can fall off.

Good job jam.. With the mainframe all we have on the table is a a 15" lcd monitor, a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse. The mouse already tried to commit suicide in a beer cooler at an outside party. I dont get excited about drinks on the station table any more but the mixer case is far enough away that nothing will pour on to it. If we are using the laptop I do pay more attention.

You know, I was thinking about this after I posted. I think I can thread an additional hole on the 'wall' side plate and put a thumb screw in there that would tighten onto the monitor's sliding piece, much like a speaker onto a pole mount. It may be a couple of weeks but I'll post a pic or two when I've tried this out.

Decided not to mess with any of that and broke down and bought a AST4206 Audio 2000. My flat panel has a swivel base on it so it sets up nicely and quickly and to knock it over will take a blow hard enough to knock the whole stand over. It has a mic holder on both left and right sides, room on the front to set my business cards, and I can attach liquid holsters on both sides of the frame. I know it's made for a regular tv but my 15" (plenty big enough for lyrics and can be read from 20' away) loves it!

I always put a seperate table in the performance area specifically for the singer's drinks. I have a printout in a plastic sheet protector that says, "Please set your drink here. Thank you." there's a picture of a beer bottle.

The table is set so its natural to put the drink there when you come up.

Posted before these are photos of my lcd stand and way of mounting. We currently have a 21" stage monitor. The power cord and RCA video is routed thru the hollow tube of the stand and makes for a pro installation. Third photo is a typical setup.
