Allright since I can't play a disc with compuhost without ripping it first, is there a program somewhere designed to play a disc sraight from the computer? If not I guess everybody that uses just a laptop either has all the songs they need or does not play anything but what they have on their hard drive. Just wanting to streamline things and try to have the least amount of gear possible. I really would think someone would have something somewhere! This would be really useful

I think there is a Winamp Plugin that does this. Or Siglos Player from powerkaraoke.com does as well.

Siglos Karaoke Professional does it. (http://www.powerkaraoke.com/src/prod_si ... sional.php)

I use Siglos myself. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles Compuhost has, but it allows me to cue up cd-gs in the laptop drive and work them right into the rotation.

Laptop drives are generally more sensitive than external players, but for the few singer discs I get each week, it works great.

I contacted Compuhost about the issue previously, and they said that they believe it is better to rip, then delete the songs rather than play them directly, since they don't trust laptop drives. Whatever.

There is a multitude of problems associated with trying to directly play a CD+G disc via computer. Everybody I know that has tried the various apps such as the Winamp Plugin have reverted back to carrying a simple CD+G player. If you're interested in providing the ability to play outside discs, you really should invest in an external player, otherwise get ready for a bunch of skipping, scrambled lyrics, and simply NOT being able to play some discs due to copy-protection!

Good luck

There's no need for that if you use Siglos software. Works perfectly. The only thing I have to do (and this may not be true with everyone) is close the file view window after playing so the CDG will eject from the drive. Otherwise it keeps spinning.

Hoster supposedly does it... but I wouldn't trust it.

Though there are a number of programs that will allow you to play discs via the PC- KaraFun comes to mind- it's just not a good idea. The drive in the PC is NOT made for professional durability, and will break sooner than later, leaving you without a drive. An external player is definitely your best bet.

Listen to tbreen, get a Karaoke player for customer discs.

Yeah I seldom get customers bringing in their own CDGs, and I use a PC shuttle which makes replacing the disc drive an inexpensive and cheap task. Plus I have two of them in there. So YMMV...

Hoster does do it & works fine, never had an issue with it.
But agree with most, just get a separate player. For one, it won't wear out your drive in the computer (not that they can't be replaced), & 2 it won't look like your are trying to rip the customer disc to your own library.

Dude, just go to Radio Shack, and pick up an A/B switch for $16 and plug your computer and karaoke player into your system that way. Someone wants to play disks, just hit the switch. Done. No F###ing around with software and screwing up your DVD drive. It sounds better too.

No need for an ab switch as Compuhost has one built into the program. Just get a video capture card, preferably the one mentioned in Invincion's forum.

Not with the CH program. Video capture card interfaces with the program so you plug in the player & it will play through the program, allowing for the programs marquee to continue running underneath the playing disc.

Any other program you need an A/B switch.

in this case the a/b switch is built into CH' program. All you need is a video capture card.

What about sound?

Sound from player goes to the mixer unless the video capture also had a sound capture?

I believe the one they suggest does have sound capabilities.
