Does anyone know how to get Autokdj now? I was able to download it 2 weeks ago and now that I have new laptop, it says the site is off line with some really weird letter attached. I have tried to go into the chat room as it requests but no one ever responds. Please help.

This is your first post. Just curious, why this program? There's lots of Karaoke software out there.

Well, then you already have it. Just copy the original install file onto your other computer. You can attach it to an email and send it to yourself, copy it to a thumb drive, burn it to a CD etc.

I tried that but I guess I am little computer illiterate. I could not get it to work. When I open winamp after putting it in the program files, winamp is still missing the plug ins. Can you give me some advise?

winamp uses a couple of different plugins for it's karaoke.
you probably have some installs to do.

One for the cdg and the other for probably pacemaker. Should be a .exe file to run.

To: Knightshow - Thanks. I have the regular Winamp for cdg and for pacemaker on all my computers. I am trying to get Autokdj on a new laptop. I have it on my desktop but can't get it on my new laptop. The website is now gone. Can you help with how I can get that part of it on my new laptop. I copied it onto my flashdrive and copied it into my prgram files but it is still missing the plugins for the Autokdj portion of it.

Spoke with one of the developers of the program today and they are devastated that it's being used by pirates and are trying to send a message. One of the devs may not come back, he's so hurt. Apparently there are so many pirates that are using it unashamedly in the San Jose area(Where the 7Bamboo is) that the karaoke joints in the area have nearly quadrupled, competing directly with them, but also earning them a big fingerpointing from manus, saying"See? We told you this was encouraging piracy!"
Let's hope enough legit KJs get on board and give them the encouragment they need to keep up the good work they do.

Did the developers really expect their program would only be used by legit KJ's if they made it free?

It's interesting that the Manufacturers would take that position; over 12 years ago I made a suggestion to most of the manufacturers that they should RAISE the price on their discs. The cost of a Pioneer laser disc at the time had topped out at $150, dk discs were $39.95 and Sound Choice was right up there. My reasoning was to make it almost prohibitively expensive for every Tom, Dick & Harry to get into the "professional side" of this business. Just like everyone can get into the excavating business.... if you can afford a bulldozer and some backhoes and payloaders.... knock yourself out.

The poisonous response I got from manufacturers was basically that it "would promote piracy" and that they were interested in going after the growing and lucrative "home market."

Okay, whatever. We're now down to just a few manufacturers and there are drives sold on the net with over 100,000 tracks on them.... Probably ripped with MP3+G toolz... another "free" program. And not to mention that there are plenty of these "newbies" now competing with the legitimate KJ for gas money.

There are two schools of thought with the current situation:, one positive and one negative.

#1. The "bad" KJ's are actually making it "better" for the legitimate KJ by 'spreading the experience' around and customers will hear (and hire) the better KJ's.

#2. The "bad" KJ's are doing nothing but training club owners that karaoke is nothing more than a bidding war where they can get the service for "less" everytime it comes up.

So, what's the solution?

IS there even a solution?

I don't think they were living in a bubble, but I dont think they thought it would get as bad as it has, at least in their area. Sad, really.

When Baskstage & Standing Ovation Discs first came out they were also in the $30 range - didn't last long but that is where they started.

True. But that was when we bought them for "the songs" on the discs... as those same songs became available on other lables, we shifted emphasis to the "the quality" of the song and not just the availability.

When I first purchased the dk discs, there were only 48 discs available and by the time I had purchased a full set of 99, it had cost me $3,995.00 plus tax per set. Which in this day and age, is more than most KJ's are willing to spend on an entire sound system.

So it definetly frys my buns when I have to go up against someone who uses a player program that was free, TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars of music that (by all measure) was virtually free, and a crappy sound system.

But Club owners don't care what you do, how much you invest, etc. They only care if you'll haul in and set up your system, work their night, tear down and haul out your system all for $100 or LESS and while you're at it, convince a bunch of singers to follow you to their bar so you can get paid by becoming their informal "marketing department."

I can't blame autOkdj for making their application free. They found an inspired way to make money from a "free" hoster. The original idea was to get a kickback from the manus for every song downloaded at a price for autOKdj. Toqer (the head autOkdj-er) asked me to join the devemopment team way back when and laid it all out for me. I declined but it really wasn't a bad idea. In the beginning the software was a joke but not so now.

Thanks for explaining that exweedfarmer. While some on here are quick to fry toqer and crew for the wrong reasons, I applaud them. They've developed one of the best programs out there for what I do. I may not have purchased it if I had to pay for it. I might have bought something else. I'm GLAD that didn't have to happen, as I now know that it's still the program I would choose regardless of price.
As for blaming them for making it easier for pirates, don't.
They are not the cause of pirates any more than you are.
As for making it easier for pirates, that argument doesn't wash either.
Pirates can pretty much get any program they want, regardless of the cost of the program.
Windows is one of the most expensive programs out there and just look at how many pirated copies of Windows are out there.
Making the program free doesn't make one iota of difference.
Pirates are using the program because it's GOOD!
Heck! If you use the argument that their program causes piracy to blame toqer and crew for what pirates do, then you might as well point the finger at good old Bill Gates too.
What program do you think they're using to cruise the net? Windows? Or Linux (free!)
Does it really matter?
Sorry, but blaming them for pirates because they did a VERY GOOD thing and GAVE us the program they worked so hard on, is not only inane, but it's unfair too.
