My high arches began to give me problems over 10 years ago. I can walk 36 holes of golf without sitting no problem, but to stand in one place makes my feet burn. Anyone ever sit? What do you use? I found a dj chair the karaoke store last week, folds up easily and would allow me to sit up high enough where I could take the pressure off my feet for awhile. I'm thinking about getting a small rubber cushioned mat like our employees use on the cement floor in the factories. |

I developed a WICKED case of plantar fasciitis from standing for 4+ hours on concrete every weekend. Not sure if this is what you're describing - horrible pain when you first put weight on your feet in the morning? At any rate, there is footwear available for women but I'm not sure about men - women with PF wear Dansko shoes - these will immediately eliminate the PF...they're expensive at average $125/pair but the pain relief is definitely worth it. May want to find out if Dansko makes mens' shoes - I know Nordstrom carries Dankso but you can also check out E-Bay. I have purchased Dansko off E-Bay successfully. The other option is to find a pair of comfortable shoes to host in and go and get measured for orthotics (not off the rack packaged ones but ones that are specifically molded to your feet) to wear in those shoes. There is NOTHING worse than foot pain when you have to stand for extended periods of time. You ask about sitting - no matter how many ways I've tried, I can't sit while I host - I am constantly running out into the crowd (the queen of 3-minute socializing they call me) ... and it seems weird to me to speak to someone who is standing while I sit. I'm sure there are chairs that would work. Those very dense and fairly expensive rubber mats do work - I had one right in front of the board and that definitely helps. I got mine at a restaurant supply but they are pretty costly. Good luck on getting some pain relief. |

Thanks Karen. No matter what shoes I get, if I stand there, my feet will start hurting. If I sit straight up, then I get migraines. I hate planes. I had a disk removed from my neck 11 years ago and I have to sit back at an angle. So if I get this dj chair, I can sit for a while, lean back, then stand. |

I sit because I can not stand for long periods of time (over 10 min) because of a fall I took with a 40' antenna tower back in 1982. I crushed the heel on my right foot and all the DR's could do is mold it back into the shape of a heel but no movement, spent 8 months in a cast. Anyway I don't see anything wrong with sitting as long as at some point you are out mingling with the crowd or getting up to make announcements or welcoming the next singer. Lone Wolf |

Point taken LF. I've found a dj chair for $65 that folds up, is adjustable, has 2 foot rests and a back rest. It weighs 11 lbs, much heavier than the Odyssey version. Just wondering what others use? |

I "dislike" sitting for myself, but have seen a LOT of KJs do it and never thought anything of it. That said, a sool is a temptation, as I have ridiculously flat feel that ache after standing for a long time. I may get a stool for short periods of sitting when not mingling. When I'm just DJing (no karaoke but actually mixing and playing) I am never stood still, I'm pretty much dancing while mixing, and never get any aches. |

I used to have the same problem Karaen mentioned. I turned to chiropractic. After about 6 months of regular chiropractic adjustments 2-3 times per week, I have no further problems. The only time my feet begin to hurt is if I go barefoot or on flip flops for extended periods. |

I don't sit too much... usually I'm too active to sit down. Once I get the singer balanced I like to move out into the room and hear the mix and enjoy the singer, talk to people, dance with a pretty girl, or whatever. If my feet are feeling sore from standing still I start moving about! |

The most comfortable shoes I've found for standing are skate shoes (NSS, Vans) because they have so much inside padding to absorb shocks to the feet. I'm a big fan of skate shoes because they're so comfortable, and you can find them in fairly conservative styles if you don't want to look too much like a 14 year old. I've got a pair of plain black leather ones and another plain brown. The cook's station in the kitchen where I work has a wonderful deep textured mat. I walk across it to get carafes of coffee and if you're feet are really bugging you yeah you might want to look into something like that. Personally I'm not sitting a lot but later in the night I'll sometimes jump up on a high table right behind me for a bit. No stool. And a chair is just too low for me to survey my kingdom. |

I had the same problem with my left foot. After trying all the drugstore insloes I got turned on to an insole that I highly recommend. Super Feet (the green ones) available at most outdoor stores. (you wont find them @ walmart or the drugstore). Alot of hikers use them. I also paid a visit to a Podiotrist (hope I spelled it right) and he gave me a cortazone shot and all better. That was 18 months ago. Oh yea, I don't buy cheap shoes anymore and infact had my feet measured and found that my feet have gotten a 1/2 size larger after all these years. |
