Hello,

So, I did a search and Karaoke Forum seems to be hyped and has the Karaoke flavor. I've always been into karaoke and looking to start doing my own gigs. Currently, I have a regular setup at home using my big screen in the living room along with my surround sounds for audio.

I inherited over 6,000 cdg's, 4mics, 2 cdg players, and a song book from my late uncle who passed away in 2002. He had his own karaoke business which he loved and enjoyed with a passion. It's been sitting in the attic for a while and a couple months ago I decided to pull it down and been having fun with it since. Every Friday night, I have friends and family come over (potluck style) and enjoy a nice karaoke session.

Now, I would like to upgrade to a professional style karake system and looking for a route to take (hopefully to play at different hotels and bars). I have already began the process of transferring all CDG's to an external harddrive and will use Virtual DJ as its main software.

I would like to know what type of mixer, amp, speakers, lights, wires to use (I currently use s-video for TV output), etc; I'm just looking to build it from scratch. I know it will cost a bit to build up so I would like to do it right, rather than just guess what works.

Welcome to KS Brandon. Gee sounds like you got a great cdg collection in your inheritance hope you make good use of it.

I'm trying to continue where he left off. I could of sold it but I feel it is something that brings enjoyment in all of us.

I'm looking at other sites now to purchase updated karaoke songs to add to the list. Tricerasoft.com might be one that offer great deals and to me, SoundChoice has the best selection I've witness so far. I'm going to redo the songlist book to keep it updated with any new songs I add but fromt he look of this, it will take me about 2 months. I could probably convert it to PDF then convert to Excel spreadsheet, which will allow me to sort it out. I'll figure out a way to try and speed it up. :lol:

If anyone has any suggestions on equipements I can buy, please free to throw out any info.

I been hearing Mackie CFX is a great mixer to invest in. Any feedbacks?

Hi Brandon and welcome to KS :wave:

I started with a Behringer Eurorack UB1222FX-PRO Mixer but upgraded to a Mackie CFX12 mkII mixer last year. The Behringer was easier to use but the difference it the sound makes the Mackie well worth the learning.

I really am finicky on the way sounds is being produced so I may be leaning towards getting a Mackie. Although some mixers maybe easier to use, I feel once I get comfortable with a mixer, I can perfect it and go from there.

Do you know what's the biggest difference between a Mackie CFX and a Mackie VLZ ... they look a like but i'm sure there's a big difference.

My apologies, I didn’t catch your post yesterday.

I don’t have much experience with the tech side of equipment. I did read a little bit on the VLZ but I’m not sure of the difference either, other than the CFX has build in graphic equalizer, external and internal EFX sends and subwoofer output. At first I used all three but now I use a Behringer EQ to crossover for the subwoofer.

I hope this is helpful but like I said I’m not a techie. This would be a good topic for the tech forum. There are some amazing tech here and they will have better info than me....Jerry
