Help!!!!!! Converting from disks to computer. Got most everything figured out, but do have a couple of questions. Everything I've read says computer needs a S-Video connector. Mine doesn't have one, but it does have DVI Video connector. Will that work and do they make a DVI to RCA cord or adapter? Also, where do I plug in on computer for sound? I am assuming I plug into the audio out, but there again I'm going to need some type of adapter to go to mixer/amp. Any suggestions on good place to get these cords and adapters. All and any help will be greatly appreciated. Already have all of my disks ripped to an external hard drive (before anyone starts in on that subject). Will probably go with Sax & Dotty's for karaoke program since I am already familiar with it and I named songs in their format when I ripped them. My computer will be here Monday (3 gigs memory, 320 gb hard drive with Nvidia GeForce 7100 and running Vista Home) Sure hope this will work for me. I would like to have it ready for a gig on Sat., 4/4. Soooooo, Please, please, please help.

If the tv's you use have DVI connections (newer HD tv's usually do, unfortunately most bar tv's aren't new), it should be fine, if not, I don't know of any adapters, not to say they don't make them, but I haven't seen any when I was looking for one a while back. The audio you can use the audio output on the sound card, you will more than likely achieve a cleaner sound getting an external sound device that just plugs into your USB, then the device plugs into the mixer via 1/4" plugs or RCA plugs. What kind of Monitor/TV are you using for the lyrics? I dont know what most people do, but I just use the second VGA output of my laptop to drive a separate LCD flat panel computer monitor. Of course if your computer is a desktop/tower you would need a second video card to do this. I would think you would only need S-Video if going to a TV or in-house video system.

You have an unusual dilemma. First of all, DVI is a DIGITAL format, while VGA and S-video are analogue formats. DVI and S-video don't play nicely with each other. If you are simply looking for a monitor for the singers. The EASIEST method would be to get a LCD monitor with a DVI input cheap. look at dealnews.com for some good prices. If you want both a monitor for the singers, and a "customer" screen that they can see as well, then you might need a scan converter. If you had a VGA out, the solution would be a "scan converter" that plugs into your VGA port, has a VGA passthrough (for a second monitor if needed), as well as the ability to output to composite, video, or S-video out to run to a TV. Here is your problem. You have DVI, a digital format. That can be converted into HDMI easily enough, but then you need a TV with an HDMI input.

Oh, guess I forgot to say that I do have VGA out. Will I need a Second video card in order to have the expanded desktop? Also, I will be using computer monitor for myself and one or two T.V.'s for customers. I know how to hook things up once I get out of computer, I just need to know what I need to do to get picture on the T.V.s without an S-Video out on my computer

What I use is something like this. Click Here. What this does is it allows your VGA to go pass through so you can attach a computer monitor (which is what I use for singer screen) and also allows you either S-Video or Composite video out simultaneously to a TV. One thing this will not do is to allow you to connect multiple LED screens, just one. However, if you get a video distributor, something like this then you can play video to multiple TVs.

I absolutely wouldn't use the built in sound card, You're liable to get a noise hum out of your sspeakers from the built in fan from the computer. An external usb audio interface is the way to go. Many, many thanks to all who have helped. I certainly have a much better idea of what I am doing now. Although I had a general idea, I was a little fuzzy on some of the technical stuff. Now I've got to get busy and get all the conectors and converters that I need. I am excited about getting all of this hooked up. Again, thanks, I may be back with more questions.

Had same problem, so I went and bought the convertor from monoprice that is in mckyj57's reply. Run your vga into box, then you can run either your s-video or rca jack into a rf modulator. Works like a charm right out of box.
