ok got my nice new rack on its way to put my zed 12fx ,behringer EP2500,Kam EQ 152 into and also just bought 2 DBX 266xl's secondhand not got them to try just yet but ive also come across an Ex-demo DBX driverack pa for £179 ( US$256.33 ).
my queston is would i still need the DBX266's to use on the mics then do you use the compressor limiter on the driverack to compress the ole mix and would i not need the kam 2x15 band EQ ?
This will be the last thing i can afford to buy for some time so want to be sure i get things right .

One other thing ive seen the RTA mic for the driverack being that im a bit strapped for cash if i buy this ,does it work ok with out the mic or can you get a none genuine RTA mic that will work with it for less money or does it have to be the DBX version?

Thanks again in advance

The DBXs are the job for mics so definately keep them.

The Driverack really depends on your speaker setup. Do you have separate amplifiera for low/mid/hi drivers ? If not then it would be of limited use.

The Behringer ECM8000 is a cheaper alternative which works fine for me.

no just have the 1 behringer ep250 amp and a pair of kam IMSPro15s.
which I may change over time but at the min thats out the queston, would the feedback eliminator and graphic not be worth it on its own ,not knowing how well that works.

Check out the Behringer DCX2496 it has a lot more features than the Driverack and costs a lot less. I'm well happy with mine.

The EQ sections of both Driverrack and DCX2496 are way better for tuning your system over a 15 band graphic. So you could sell that or use it for individual mic EQ on the channel inserts, but once again 15 bands is of limited use.

Auto feedback elimination looks cool on paper but better speaker placement, mics and speakers go a long way to eliminating it before it starts. An Auto thingamajig could create huge holes in you sound.

The DCX2496 really is cool but it doesn't have auto eq.

the Behringer DCX2496 looks a nice unit but not seen much about it and most people ve seen on here seem to use the driveracks, does it have mostly the same fetures as the driverack pa ,a quick scan I see them around the same price I can pick this ex-demo Driverack up for.

The DCX2496 can be had for about £130 but the Driverrack will get the most votes for desirability and re-sale value. I did'nt need or want the auto eq feature because I use neat software for tuning my system. The 3 input and 6 outputs of the Behringer sold it for me. The driverrack is prob ideal for you. Go for it and sell the Kam 15 band eq.

I know it is about speaker placement but the gig i do each friday has a small stage and i mean small, on one side of the room with bench seats along the wall in front and and seating along the other side with a firedoor in front of them and the only place to put the speakers which i hate is one on the stage right next to the seats then one off a stand on the back end of the seats next to the firedoor .
no room for anyone to stand on the stage which means they are infont of the speaks which causes probs right away ,but i deal with it quite well ,was hoping it would just help a little .

If you can identify the dominant feedback frequency then you will know where to target the eq cuts required.

Download and install the free RTA from Allen and Heath. That will help as a starting point.

Then try putting the Kam in the mic inserts in series, but after the DBX comps and see how well you can notch out the worse feedback freq(s).

Record a gig with feedback ocurrances and analyse to you hearts content afterwards at home with the RTA

My bane is 4.54kHz

BTW it's better to notch out feedback in the offending mic channel rather than put a notch is the whole PA sound.

A DRPA is a complicated box that's best added to a system after the user has fully understood what he already has for awhile. If you don't believe me look up the recent post from that guy who used a DRPA in a new rig on his first night and had to troubleshoot his Driverack over a cellphone while the room was waiting for him to start.

That said $250 is a pretty good deal for one I think. And you might want to pick it up anyway. Just don't rely on it at first.

The AFS feedback eliminator is a great tool for karaoke. I'd call some kind of feedback elimination essential - at least with my crew. But once again it takes some time with the box to use it to your best advantage. The setup wizard isn't using it to it's full potential and manually there's a variety of menus that are addressed with a combination of button presses.

The graphic is the same situation. It's best for setup and not tweaking.

I put a small amount of post mix compression onto everything from my DRPA but I'm kinda weird. I don't think anyone else running karaoke does in this forum.

It's a wonderful tool. Just make sure that you thoroughly understand it before you use it in public.

The setup wizard is no help when you have to troubleshoot onstage.
