As I posted under the "Contest Posting" I'm doing a new gig at a new bar(open 6 months) trying something I came up with to help sell the owner. It's a nice new bar in a small town-that can draw from the near local small towns with not much happening. We're doing a "Beer Bingo". When you come in,you get a bingo card, after each song a bingo # will be called, You win and you will get a free picture of beer, then it starts again with a new card. This is a sports based bar, and being a new one we want to create a different attitude from all the run of the mill shows in the area. We are going to have a tamborine, and cow bell handy for the singers friends to join the show. But also want to have some Hula Hoops to have a few songs were everyone can enjoy some hip action. These would be played music songs as a fun break, unless we can get some that a few singers will key on.Can anyone think of some songs that would work good? |

Where do I hang the picture at? So if it is a long rotation and I sing 5 times, what's my chances of getting a bingo? Maybe some happy 50s and 60s song. Other than that the first song that comes to mind is Mickey by Toni Basil. The blue font,,, well I'd ditch that. |

Everyone that comes thru the door will get a Bingo card,And a # after every song that is sung,Not for everytime you sing. (but that might be a good point),We'd want a winner once a hour. Might have to have custom cards with more FREE spaces in them. Mickey,That's the style I was trying to think of.......Any others that anyone can think of? |

We have done both Bingo & hula hoop contests in the past. The bingo went over pretty good, I printed up the cards using a bingo maker design program I had found & created the call sheets. Every 15 minutes would draw a call. Sometimes it would take all night for someone to actually get a bingo, sometimes not at all - in which the pot (bar supplied $25) of $25 per week would accumulate to a cap of $200. Definitely kept people there longer & since they had to spend in order to get the cards to begin with, this helped with people just trying to get something for nothing. The hula hoop, we didn't just hand them out, we'd offer up who could do it the longest for a $20 prize. Usually we'd get at least 5-10 participants, but it would only last a couple minutes total as no one was in quite the shape they used to be when they could actually hula hoop - including me . It was a blast for about a year then people started losing interest. |

Thanks for the input, I'm thinking the win time could get long, like your saying. It could be speed up by eliminating a line that is being draw(like not using the O line) A couple of options I'm thinking about is maybe avoiding cards all together. Maybe have people when they come in draw 3 balls and then record then on a sheet or in excel, then they wouldn't have to keep track if they didn't want to. I'm almost thinking this may be more work then I planned. Since this is a small town (as most are in iowa),We figure not a hula hoop contest, but just more of a tradition, when the songs come on. |

I've done the hula hoop thing with my band and (Wipe out) always works for hoopin it up. The only rule we have is not around the neck or on the arms.Must be around the waist so nobody catches one in the eye or it goes flying off and damages something. |
