I am doing some research on a website called DollarStoreJunkie.com http://www.dollarstorejunkie.com I just saw them listing in PayPal Shops and noticed they have karaoke cd+gs for $3.99 to $4.99 each. It looks legit, however I had a few problems recently on eBay, that is making me a little more cautious. I purchased some K Tools karaoke on eBay that turned out to be FAKES, and I will not take any bootlegg product to shows.

So if anyone has purchased from them please let me know. I will probably buy 1 or 2 to test them out, however I would like to purchase about 32 disc, but I don't want to put over $100 out there, unless I am comfortable. Especially nowadays. In the past, I would just jump in HEAD FIRST, but I am on a serious budget.

Never bought from them, but they look legit. Probably selling out stock that is either overstocked or discontinued from the manus. circleofdeals.com a couple years back were selling SC Spotlight discs for $4.99 each, looks like the same type of clearance center.

Well, I agree with Lonman, they do look legit  Don't hesitate to try the Karaoke Bay disk, the backing is from the old Top Tunes and Pocket Song but with a better sound, they took the time to normalized the tracks  BTW, this brand is own by Sony music

I hope its legit and from reviews I looked up, it seems to be. Thanks for posting that. My boyfriend had his disc collection lost or stolen and some of the songs weren't available any more on Sound Choice. I just got back our Sound Choice "Smooth" and "Friends in Low Places" live version from ordering off that site. I hope.

I am NOT familiar with the vendor. However, I would assume that if they are using Paypal they must have a legitimate business presence?

As to the CDG's offered on the website, I have raved about Karaoke Bay discs ever since I first discovered them at Walmart! Unfortunately, they have been out of business for years now, so I seek them out when I find a new place to purchase discs.

In my library, they often provide the best track that I have of a song! Anyway, I grabbed three discs from that website that I didn't have, and they were worth paying the shipping charge for. I believe I had paid about $10 for the KB discs that I had purchased in Walmart!

YEAH BABY, just got home from a gig and my stack of Disc's arrived. One of the Disc I picked up was an Opera disc, which I would have NEVER even considered, but had a special request for the track "Largo Al Factotum" which is on the Disc! I am so happy I don't know what to do with myself! (Keep it CLEAN), you know what I mean.

Now that's Karaoke BABY

lol! It's all about being excited. But since I'm not in the market right now for country songs, nothint on that site made it worthwhile to buy 5 or 6 of these.

There was a Sound Choice Headbangers ! on there and some older male pop. I was able to plug a few holes with them plus replace a mess of our SGB songs.

I was amazed when I saw the Opera disc on there and wondered what kind of scenario would allow someone to sing opera at karaoke--and right off the bat karaoke baby said there was a request for it! Maybe I'll get it for when people say, "Just kamikazi me."

The other brand looks like the same cover art as Country Karaoke Classics. I have bought a few of those in the past to test the demand for having a lot of songs by one artist and many of the tracks are fine and some are embarrassing. But I do like Karaoke Bay for country.

My discs arrived from across country just 3 days after I ordered them. My boyfriend was previewing the Karaoke Bays and was very excited that at last he had some versions of songs with the correct lyrics. (They will be replacing some major brand versions, not just SGBs).

I noticed most of the discs available on the Dollar site are also available as a lot on EBay for even less per disc. But we didn't need all of them and the Dollar site gave very good service.

Again, thanks for the heads up.

DON' T DO IT with the Opera! I am not trying to knock Opera, but it is NOT for most Karaoke Environments! I did a retirement party at a local Bar & Grill, the person that requested the disc was there. They were SO Happy, they left a $20 tip. To be honest If I see them again, I will probably give them back the $20 to NEVER sing it again at a show of mines.

It was a GREAT early evening, everyone was having a ball, or as much of a ball that I've seen 50 and 60 have. The tempo was pretty good, some Country at first, then 80's Rock picked up the pace. Then the Opera Lady shows up, so here we go. After she finished it looked like everyone was on morphine. I myself, really didn't know what to do or say. Soon after that the Party was OVER!!!!! It took everything the room had in it. She seems to be good friends with the Management, so my gig may be safe, but if she wasn't they would send me packing.

I am not saying she sung bad, which I really can not judge, but it is NOT to be used in a party atmosphere. This may be good for Private Parties, but that is it, if someone really needed it. The tip was great, but I don't know if it is worth it!

That's NOT Karaoke Baby!

After reading more about how the KJ was killed, maybe I should think a bit before I decide how to handle this patron if they want to do Opera again, ya think?

it IS karaoke, baby!

Karaoke is in it's base, music for the masses to sing to. Period.

If your customer wanted it, you supplied it. THAT's the sole responsibility for karaoke hosting, to do what the customer wants, and to make them sound as good as humanly possible.

I always cringe when I hear people talking about the flow of the show, or editing song requests or moving them around to make it better.

If you get five country ballads in a row, that's what you have. The only thing I would do to make it a bit different is in the time it takes me to announce "hey great job" or something similar and when the new singer begins their song, I use mix music (filler, whatever) to change the pace, and to remind the "ballad he!! folks there's more exciting stuff to sing.

I agree with you and to be honest it normally just works out GREAT! However I have never experienced something like the Opera that took EVERYTHING out of the room. Have you ever experienced something like that? If so, what did you do. Usually I have more than enough to say or sing to pump the crowd back up, however this time even I was OUT of it. It was so different and the patrons were NOT feeling it at all. Again, I don't think it was how she sung it, it really want that bad from a Vocal perspective, it just was totally WRONG for the Party environment.

So what I was thinking is to NOT have it available, or something like that. However I don't know what to say if she comes back and I don't have it. I don't want to make her mad either. WHAT would you suggest, this has really got me thinking!

I've had room clearings before... not much you can do about it. Except advise the person that's going to sing it in the future what might happen. Sure, remind them that Opera's just not most folk's cup of tea. But if the singer wants to do it, hey, why not?

I've had people butcher songs, or think that they can sing a gender bender song and make more feedback than the speakers... I've had drunks that think they can sing and can't, and I've had sober folks sound as off key as a volkswagon bug trying to drive on one cylinder.

THAT's the other side of karaoke... you're GOING to have them moments, and the best you can do is to thank GOD their five minutes is up. Queue up another mix song, get the next singer up as fast as you can, and move on.

Karaoke's not for the pretty people, it's not just for those of us that can sing... it's for everyone. Hey, I've tanked my share of songs in the past, I recently did a new song at a venue and it SUCKED! LOL! I mean it was AWFUL. I couldn't find my key, I began to get a nervous sweat... it was so bad, that the next song I came up on, I heard some groans... until I nailed it.

It happens to us all. If you try new songs, you're going to have some awkward moments.

After thinking about it after reading your response. You are ABSOLUTELY right! I probably would have made a MAJOR mistake if I just went with my emotions instead of my brain. Thanks a TON!!!!!!! :D

I think it's kool that you asked RATHER than assuming you know what's kool to do. Even if you went with your first assumption, thanks for being way positive and searching out answers that others might have!

to be honest, other hosts might do it differently... so go with the flow, and keep us appraised of the situation as it develops!

We had a WONDERFUL gal named Jerri that came in and sang oddball Ratpack type songs, but they weren't the popular ones... these were ones I'd never heard of.

And it was a serious drain on the party. But I thanked her openly for bringing us sounds of a bygone time that made me think what we'd lost. And she got a standing ovation shortly after that, as other singers said they began to think about it after I gave her kudos one night. She was more than patient with us and our glam rock crap we sang, or moldy oldies of country and pop... why couldn't we give her the same time on the mic?

She passed away a year or so before I left the Portland area. ANd I was very sorry to feel her absense!

Ordered my discs on April 1. They NEVER arrived.

I couldn't find their toll-free ph#, which they mention they have during the process of providing and recommending that it's best to e-mail them

Knightshow had some interesting comments that reminded me of the first show I regularly attended. There it was a given that you would hear all sorts of music from all ages and abilitites. There were two professional Elvis impersonators (very nice--no egos or pretence), a young fellow who wrote his own hip hop and sang to his own tracks, the host sang his own original compositions and there were people who did show tunes and Big Band songs. It was karaoke etiquette that if you didn't like one thing, it would soon be over so you clapped for everyone. The host seemed to enforce this with just a look from behind the booth. He might also give an introduction that would smooth what was to come if he sensed it might lack general appeal.

Some of the people rensented the show tunes lady because she was doing long, slow numbers but she had a spectacular voice so I enjoyed it. It did sort of drain the evening but it could easily be revived because people accepted that you would hear a bit of everything and things were soon to change. Now there does seem to be pressure to keep things moving and people will actually leave at the slightest hint of boredom. As hosts it is easy to get sucked into those pressures. Knightshow reminded me of the days when Karaoke was for everyone and you didn't fear losing your crowd at the slightest mis-step.
