That's what I do. No matter what that singer just did to the memory of Frank Sinatra, I applaud, baby, because it's hard to get up there and face a microphone. And I tell my fellow singers that they should hoot, too - because it's an excellent way to keep your voice warm between songs;-) Call it the Golden Rule. Give the kind of applause that you'd like to receive. |

Amen, and as someone who used to suffer from severe stagefright I do applaud for just having the nerve to get up there. Rudy. |

Applaud. Always. There's always a reason. Sometimes it's cause they did good, sometimes it's cause it's over |

I am so conditioned to clap that I can be in the middle of a heavy conversation and in the back of my mind the singer has stopped and I begin clapping - you should see some of the faces that arise out of that - like "what the heck are you doing?" So many years of clapping for people...I do it subconsciously. It's kind of contagious, too, I might add. |

There are (3) reasons why people clap at the end of a song.... (1) Because The Singer Was Great! (2) Because The singer Was Bad and thank god they are off the stage! (3) So nobody knows if you are clapping because of #1 or #2.... |

You are right on the money Karen. I find myself doing the same thing right in the middle of an intense conversation. It's like programmed in my friggin' DNA. Applause after every singer..... NO MATTER WHAT!!!!! |

We have a guy who's been hanging around the last few months (i think he just turned 21) and he is severly afflicted- it's in his actions, his facial features, his speech, everything about him. He can't sing a lick, he ends up doing more off key/off time screaming than anything. But my gosh, that kid LOVES music and LOVES to sing. And of course he gets good applause and encouragement.... and that's as it should be. Everybody.. everybody... should be awarded the same applause and respect from the crowd when they get up and perform. |

Yeah But isn't it embarrassing when you're the only one applauding and that's because the singer is paused for a 24 measure break? That's one of many reasons why I believe it's crucial to have a monitor for the audience to view at each and every show. I hate shows where there's just a monitor for the singer! |

Yeah, as they say... Always applaude. Sometimes its because of a great performance, and sometimes its because its over. That said, you can really tell when the audience is impressed buy the hoots and hollers and thunderous applause. |

I always applaud no matter what it gives singers encouragement to do it again and as a KJ at the end of the song I encourage listeners to clap by saying "All right let's give it up for (singers name)" or "How about a big round of applause for (singers name). Most of the people get the idea. Lone Wolf |

I do it too . I also give a positive comment after every singer, along the lines of "Great job!", "Way to go", and the like. The problem is, that it's become such a habit to say at the end of every song, that I've caught myself almost saying it after I sing! Now THAT would be embarassing! |

I was at a bachelor party the other night and started clapping when the music died for the dancer on stage. Got a few odd looks but pulled a "Strippers need love too!" line out for escape. |

There was one embarrasing time (only ONE time... ) that I sang a song with a short musical outro. After my singing part was over, I went to my seat and sat down and started yacking, the KJ let the music play out. (it wasn't very long... 20-30 secs) Being so used to applauding for everyone, when the music ended and people applauded, I found myself clapping along. Then it hit me, wait a sec- wtf? I was the one who just sang. I got a few chuckles from those at my table, but luckily I don't think everyone noticed:) I'm the kind to make some noise whooping and hollering after a song ends at karaoke, so..... yeah, it was pretty ignorant. . |

I do that -- with enthusiasm -- for fun sometimes. |
