I'm looking at QSC power amps, the rmx2450 and the gx5 the price difference is giving me question to belive there is a quality or performance difference in the two amps.
What am I missing or why the difference in price?

In retrospect the GX5 would have been a better call for my uses than the RMX2450 I am using. All of the RMX features I don't use are what pumps up the price; Bridged mono mode, 2 ohm operations, selectable low-frequency filters. I'm not sure I like how the GX5 built in cross-over solution ,channel 1 is the sub, channel 2 full range, but if you're not looking to use a passive sub then it's not an issue. I am very happy with my RMX2450, it's a fantastic workhorse and never lets me down. However, after a bit of experience with it, I would get a GX5 today for my uses. |

Basically the GX5 has no bridge-mono mode and is not designed to drive 2 ohm loads. It is most efficient when driving 4 ohm circuits, and is fine for 8 ohms / channel too. The RMX 2450 operates from 2 - 8 ohms / channel and 4 - 8 ohms bridge-mono. It is also quite a bit heavier than the GX5. Compare the RMX to Crown's XLS-series. |

I own both they are great amps but quite heavy. The operational differences were explaned in the previous post. A GX5 is great for mains but that is about it. I'm not a fan of the crossover but if needed it can run 2 8 ohm tops and 2 8 Ohm subs |

I am not sure if you are familiar with Carvin amps, but they are actually pretty good. They recently came out with the DCM series that are half the weight of the old units. My DCM2500 weighs at a hefty 33 lbs, whereas the DCM3800L weighs 16 lbs only. Check it out: http://www.carvinguitars.com/poweramps/ |

Thanks for your help, and yes the carvin dcm3800 was exactly what I was going to get .But I was told I really didn't need that much power in one amp.To split the power and run a crossover but if this dosen't work well I will upgrade to my initial plan. Thanks again |

Thanks again The new Carvin lightweight series is my new replacement as well. Already heard the DCM 3800 & it kicks butt! Too much power is NOT a bad thing, it only means more clean & full sound at lower volume levels so you do not have to turn up as loud & your speakers will LOVE you for it! |
