Post subject:  Somebody Please help newbie to understand compuhost requirements

Hello everyone. I have been to this site for quite a while and found it to be a great source for info, thanks to all for what you have done for us silent members. But now to my dilema. I am a KJ host with a growing new business. Its still a part time thing for me but I am now up to 3 shows a week and have more interested. I am currently using a Numark KMX02 dual unit and have had many troubles with them. I own 2 just to make sure I have 1 to finish a show but thats another storey. I am looking at switching to a laptop and like what I see in the compuhost program. I am not great on computers so wht I am concerned with is getting a laptop that is correct for it. Seems anything new is plenty good for every requirement except the video card. Seems that anything I see at best buy or staples or online says nothing about a video card capable of dual moniters. Somebody please fill me in. Thanks to all the great help .

Look for a laptop with a VGA connector. They will sometimes have an SVideo connector too. I don't know of any newer laptop that has a VGA that will not run extended desktop. I have seen some 5-7 year old Dells, that didn't measure up, but nothing newer.

Once you get a laptop with the VGA, you get:

That will allow you to use a cheap LCD monitor ($70-$120) for your singer monitor. That is instead of a bulky CRT TV or an expensive LCD TV. You will still have a composite output to run to the venue's TV's to provide audience display.
