I like most all types of music but I have a thing for Singer Songwriters. They have a different approach to music that I appreciate and connect with. I was surfing you tube today and found this gem of a song by Mary Gauthier and just had to share it. I’m not familiar with her. But I really like this song. "Mercy Now" was released 2005 and this video was shot at the Grand Ole Opry. Enjoy! And have a great day. Feel free to share any interesting music videos. |

That's a very poignant song Jerry! I really like this style too. Real heartfelt music by genuine folk. That looks like Marty Stuart up there too. Dad took me to see him play once. |

Yelp looks like Marty to me. I remember my dad taking me places when I was young….. but I’d find my way home every time. I’m surprised that you would like this type of music. pretty cool. |

Rattlin' Bones Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson I wanted to add this video because Kasey Chambers is one my favorite songwriters. She collaborated with Shane Nicholson on this song. Kasey’s vocal style keeps her out of music’s mainstream but not so much on this song. |

A few years back I saw Jason Matthews, Rebecca Lynn Howard and Roxie Dean at a Casey Jones Songwriter’s night. What a show! I went for Jason Matthews (he co-wrote “Break Down Here”) but I was most impressed with Roxie Dean. In 2005 Roxie released her debut album, Ms. America. Her songwriting career includes a 2001 Nashville Songwriters Association International "Top 10 Songs That You Wish You’d Written" award for "Why They Call It Falling" (co-written with Don Schlitz), and a Grammy nomination for co-writing "When I Think About Angels." Oh yeah... and she’s from Louisiana When I Think About Angels by Roxie Dean |

That summer Buddy Holly took over the Apollo and NYC by storm. The Beattles and everybody copied his style. It would have been interesting to see what he would have developed later on. |

Where would Linda Ronstadt be without Buddy Holly’s songs? |

One Thing by Finger Eleven is one of the coolest songs I've heard in a while. It's really a nice acoustic tune. It's one that I wish I would have pened. It was Released in 2003 but it's new to me. |

Now that I've watched a few of these I'm wondering just how can people put these video's on You Tube without violating copy write laws? I'm pretty sure that none of the singer/songwriters were paid for these performances. We as KJ's can not own an illegal cut of a song but it seems that anyone can put these things on You Tube and get away with it. Is this another gray area of some obscure law? Lone Wolf |

Yeah, I wonder the same thing, LW. I have found some video’s that have been pulled. I think some artists are fighting the whole internet use of music but I think that some have embraced it and has created confusion in the music industry. The internet has changed the landscape of the world economy and some haven’t figured out how to make money yet. I kind of feel like the internet is hurting the economy in many ways. But change is not always a bad thing… right? |
