Where's your show Karen? Yeah I get folks asking me to check out their racks all night long. They're usually looking for a bump up on the rotation and I tell them, "Nope. Sorry." If I see a tattoo I give them an "I'll see what I can do" then do nothing. However they walk away happier. |

And you hogged it all to yourself. Pffft! Some friend you are. BTW thanks for the latest mag and the disk of the photos. The wife is amused that I seem to make friends wherever I go and my co-workers are simply amazed |

It's funny but his visit was just like this thread. I have a friend that would help or ask for help and we could work together. |

I've found most who introduce themselves to me as karaoke hosts either are looking for a bump in the rotation or some other kind of special treatment. I enjoy going to lots of different shows to sing...don't think I've once mentioned to the KJ that I'm also a host. As for looking at my "rack"? Go for it. But keep your eyes off my "package". |

not true. Many times I'm looking to discuss things on a professional level, But I'm more than happy to sit and wait my turn. When I go out to another venue, I'm JUST another singer. Many times, the KJ is talking out their azz about something, so if I correct them (IF I feel like having that kind of discussion with the nitwad), they'll look over at me and ask, "Oh, are you in the business?" If I don't feel like it, I just smile and nod and go, "Interesting!" and walk away. |

Funny thing. I had a very popular local KJ come by my Friday night show, a show he used to run several years ago. He's someone who everyone knows, has great sound and runs a great show. He stopped by because it was his night off and he wanted to do some singing. He had just given me his second song for the night, started to walk away them stopped and turned around. He looked like he had a suggestion to make on something so I said, "Suggestion?" He looked puzzled and said, "Suggestion? Uh, not at all. I know I hate people giving me advice and I would never do that to you. I was going to tell you that you're just about out of song slips in the far tray." After I told him I solicit suggestions from folks he loosened up, he didn't didn't give any but hung around the board and we traded stories and talked equipment. It was a very positive experience with no ego or swagger. The folks who did know him had a good time talking with him and the folks who didn't got to enjoy his singing. I'd hope I'm at least that amenable when I visit other shows. |

When I go to another show I can relax and have fun without worrying about rotation or sound, I do not go in as another host but as soon as I pick up a mic and start chattering everybody knows that I am a professional host in one way or another (50 years before karaoke and have hosted for huge crowds and important dignitaries) . I do not try to take over the show but add to it and work with the host. Out of habit I will sit there and take requests and help people with the books. I can put everybody at ease yet they know they are dealing with a pro and an entertainer. I am more concerned with their ego than mine. READ THAT AGAIN I am there to entertain and make sure their ego needs are met and they have fun. When I leave I am shaking hands and thanking people for a good time. When I return I see smiles and dont need to sing every round for I am having too much fun and dont have the time to sing sometimes... |

I had two KJ's from this forum visiting my show so far, which I enjoyed very much btw. I also had pretty much every KJ in my area at my show at one or more occasion. It never bothers me at all. If it's someone from here, I'm always looking forward to it, because I think the majority here is friendly, experienced and it's always nice to meet someone in person, that you only know from a forum/chat/community/etc. With the local KJ's, even though two of them don't really like me, but are still nice to my face... I'm extra nice to them. And with the rest of them, I'm good friends. For instance... I went to another KJ's show about a year ago on my birthday. Now, you have to know, that we have an unwritten courtesy rule between us KJ's here (probably in other parts of the US, too), which says, if another KJ visits your regular show, he/she gets to sing at least one song. So I'm at this other show with a bunch of friends, the show went from 9-1. I put in a song request at around 11, because I wanted to eat first and have a drink with my friends. This KJ tells me, sorry, rotation is full. Then I told him, come on, it's my birthday today, but he kept telling me no. At first I thought he was joking, since I was there almost from the beginning and he still had 2 hours to go, but then he insisted and told me again, he can't put me in the mix. After realizing, that he was serious, my friends and I left the place. I couldn't believe it... That same KJ showed up at my show a couple of months later. I had a choice... should I be the same a**hole or not? I chose to be super nice to him. I announced on the mic, that he's another KJ from this area and I placed him 3 down in the rotation as soon as he walked in. Then he tells me (right before he left) stop by any time at my show. Did I ever go there again? Nope... Btw, that same KJ tried to back stab me too once. He tried to steal a show from me. What he didn't know, the place he tried it, was my parents Restaurant... |
