What business insurance rates are you folks paying?

Post subject:  What business insurance rates are you folks paying?
I am trying to estimate what fixed costs are associated with a karaoke business.

Can anyone share what rates they are paying as well as any agent recommendations?

I run a hobby not a business so my personal homeowners covers what i do. I DO NOT bother to insure my equipment. when i checked into it my agent gave me a number that imo was more than it was worth. my gear is all paid for and i live in a pretty low crime area. I had a speaker cab stolen when i was in high school, and insurance didn't do squat . my car was vandalized last year, again insurance was no help, so i have little faith in it.

There are insurance outfits that can give you decent liability and equipment coverage for less than $700 per year. State Farm et al will not do much for you.

You might try contacting N.A.M.E. ( National Assiciation of Mobile Entertainers). The association is fairly worthless, but they do get a vary good group discount.

Others mentioned theft and damage, but I would be more inclined toward business liability.

I am more concerned about liability if someone gets hurt during a gig.

Technically, they would come after the establishment and not the subcontractor, but then the establishment's management may come after me (subcontractor).

In some cases, it may be possible to sue the contractor directly and I want to be protected against that.

Car Vandalized is a low crime area? Maybe you should just find out if they will insure your equipment and how much it would cost. You never know if may cost the SAME to insure your equipment. I pay around $900 a year total.

Check out WeDJ.com. If you join their org you can get a discount on insurance. The company they use will only offer it to members but it's a pretty good deal. I have $1M in liability and $15K in equipment protection for less than $500 a year. The WeDJ dues I believe are $13 a quarter (so $52 annually).
