I think for that money the best you'd do would be a pair of Mackie SRM-450 v2's. You could get a pair of JBL EON's G2's for that as well, but based on my experience with both the Mackie's are a much better speaker. The cabinets are better constructed and tuned, the JBL's sound a little more hollow to me and definitely bleed more low end through the back of the cab.

If you can find a pair of the Mackie SA1521's in the price range, even if you have to look at used, I think you'd be much happier. The birch cabinet makes a tremendous difference. Unfortunately, I don't think you'll find a pair of QSC or EV powered speakers in that price range or that would be the ultimate.

well I use wharfedales and find them fantastic...plus they are incredibly reasonably priced...they are not marketed well in the US because they are reasonably priced...why would a store point you in the direction of wharfedale when they can get so much more for JBL or Mackie? Those of us who do use them however, love them. I used them outdoors on new years eve and they performed superbly at the street party...indoors I have so much control in a restaurant that a couple of oldies with hearing aids can sit underneath them and speak normally while people across the room can still hear everything...yes they are cheap, no they are not the "in" brand, but they perform above expectations. I have used them now for 3 years and they have never missed a beat

one more thing...I have never had to run these at full. We have done open air gigs with them more than once...the louder they are the clearer they are and I still havent got to maximum output...the latest outside gig was new years eve and our sound was great...for what we did it was more than ample outside...my husband and I are a vocal duo using backing tracks...but we also had a kid on keyboards and another 3 singers that day as well and it was fab :)

I would agree with you dear

Here's the link to the distributor for the USA, same who now distribute KV2 audio and the best mixer in the world, Allen & Heat

I looked up the wharfedales last night and found one model comparable to the eon 515s as far as specs. Wasn't much difference in cost actually, at least not from the cost on a deal of 515s I have found. Anyone else, thoughts?

Wharfedale has a pretty decent name, but you won't find many of those in the US. I would think the JBLs or Mackies would have a lot better resale value.

Remember also, if you are always running with a sub you don't need 15" speakers. In fact, some would say 12" tops are a better match with an 18" sub.

One other thing to consider will be repair service. With Wharfedale just starting to break into the US market, I'm not sure how much support infrastructure they have here. Mackie and JBL are well established and you can find both large shops and private individuals that can handle repairs pretty easily on those models.

Good point  They've been around in Canada for some time now and it's still very hard to find their products  They are one of the biggest speaker manufacture in the world, bigger than Mackie, well, at least they make all their components as oppose to Mackie who out sources... But it's no secret, Mackie is not a speaker company but a mixer company

My first choice will always be EV and followed by Yorkville 8)

I like lots of head-room in the system, so that is why I use 2-1/2-way 15" cabinets with subs. I have probably posted about this before, but there's five basic forces that put wear and tear on speakers: 1) amp clip, evil red light; 2) heat, or power applied to each driver over time; 3) over-excursion, or going way beyond driver peak power or way out of rated frequency range with too much power; 4) hitting speed bumps with your trailer; and 5) the dreaded spilled beer.

By putting subs together with 2-1/2-way cabinets and a good cross-over setup, you combat #1 and #2, and to a lesser extent #3. Yes, a sub plus a 2-way cabinet with a 12" or 15" driver works and sounds fine; but if you have more drivers they are each working in a different bandwidth and handling different heat loads; and by using out-board cross-overs you divide up your amp work too.

Now if someone would invent a rack-mount device that protects the system from beer instead of electrical surges ... ;)

Getting back to the original question. I checked with my distributor and asked him what the best he could do you on a pair of Yorkville NX55P's would be. It looks like you could have them shipped to your door (assuming your in the US) and still get them in on the high side of your limit. Which would be pretty good seeing how they are suppose to retail for around 1800. The NX55P would work very well with your sub.

Tempting! So what's the price shipped in US bucks? And what if I need to do a gig without a sub? How will they hold up ? What is the non peak watts?

Those are very good speakers, I rented a pair for a party outside and I was amazed how smooth and generous they could be in the lows, they could easily be used with out a sub  I would prefer them over JBL & Mackie anytime

Agreed 100%. If the price fits your budget I'd go the Yorkville route over Mackie or the lower end JBL's.

Would you consider the eon 515s lower end?
