Post subject:  Which karaoke machine?

Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum.
I want to know more about the karaoke machines they use in Asia.
When I went there, they had these karaoke boxes which are rooms for people to sing and hang out in.
Then there was a machine with a remote control and a monitor. You could pick a song using the control by going through the options which was shown on the screen (such as language of the song, male or female singer, until you narrow down to the song you want). The actual song would show up on the big projector screen and the list of songs you have chosen will appear on the monitor

Sorry if it sounded stupid, really have no idea about this.
I am looking to purchase something similar, hope some of you can point me to the right direction.
Thanks in advance

I've been to these rooms in the Philipines and Vietnam. They use MIDI karaoke there. No real instruments, just synthesizers. It sounds like (@$%&#!), but it is very cheap. The equivilent here would be the Magic Mic. You can buy these at most karaoke stores like ACE Karaoke. You really want one of these???

Actually, this sounds like the Cavs Karaoke Jukebox to a tee.

This is the 2nd thread I've read about these "small rooms/karaoke boxes" where people go either by their selves or a few of their mates just to sing !

Is it just me who finds this strange or are there actually people who want to do this ?

Or have I got the concept all wrong ?

This seems to be popular in the Asian community, here and abroad..

I stopped in at one of these "Box" karaoke venues and it was all Asian, no English at all.

Extremely popular here in hawaii with the asian community- especially japanese.

The rooms rent for $30-$50 an hour and either have the old pioneer karaoke laserdiscs with a remote control, or a cavs 199 server jukebox that has great tracks from SC, PHM, CB, MM,DK, etc... NOT midi-junk.

Most venues have a seated bar in the middle and serve/bring food to your room.

On the mainland i've only seen 1 or 2 of these places, here, they're everywhere!

MagicSing mics are used as homeuse here mostly- never seen anyone try to run a show with one- that would suck.

That's not really what i am looking for, the sound quality is just the same as the ones we have here. I have been on ACE karaoke, but there are just too many to choose from, and it's hard to find the right one just by looking at it on a website.
but thanks for your input

The Cavs Karaoke Jukeboke is that similar to what they are using?
I found this website: http://cavsoutlet.com/shop/index.php?cat=2
is this what you are talking about?

I heard it's quite popular in asia, originated from Japan, but now it has spread across the whole asia.
I guess it's just cultural difference.
Plus it can be quite embarrassing to always have to sing in front of so many people, just box offers an alternative.

The one I went to had a few English songs, but nothing up to date. But it's was in a Chinese speaking country so I didn't expect to find a lot of English ones.

If you are just wanting this for home use and not to make money, I would rather say go the laptop-pa-mixer-mic route. Or skip the laptop and go from a home pc that you may already have.
Without having looked into this of course but I would think you could get much better quality at most likely a cheaper price. Now if you want it to make money and allow people to sing in it that are shy, sure you should go for it.
