Yesterday am, (5:30) I see this raccoon in the yard..
I grabbed my camera and followed him for a bit.
Nothing seemed to faze him.. The raven was squawking and I was on his butt..

An old boar coon. Might have been somebodies pet till he got mean. They are shy in that environment and normally only seen at night. While they wont back down if cornered they will drown a big coon hound if the hound follows them into deep water.
A coon hunt at night with a pack of hounds is something you never forget..

Being a nocturnal animal I wouldn't be happy seeing this out in the day time. Usually the only reason they come out in the day time is they got rabies and are a little nutsy.

Yikes, you wouldn't have caught me getting very close to him (not without a hound in tow anyhow).... coons can get meaner than hell if cornered.

I wouldn't know what habitates your area JD. (surely not elephants)
Well, I've only been to your neck of the woods once and the only species I recall seeing was cars- all kinds & varieties, lots n' lots n' lots of cars. Noisy, irritating little buggers they are:)

Same thing for me last night. Got home from doing a show, pulled into my driveway, and one of those masked bandits was sitting right in my driveway. Just looked at me and stuck his tongue out!!!,,,Ok, kidding on the tongue, but there he was, just staring at me! They aren't native to our neck of the woods. About 40 years ago, there was a man who illegally planted 6 racoons about 50 miles from here. They flourished, and now they are everywhere! They really are sorta cute animals, but afterall, they ARE wild animals, and could be very dangerous. I see a new dead one on the roads (anyone for road-kill stew?? hehe) almost daily. Who do ya call? 'Coonbusters????

Racoons roam my backyard at night in packs of 6 or 8. I live very much inside a city but behind my house we have a wooded area in the middle of the subdivision made of land not practical to build on. The wildlife in this small area is incredable. We have seen racoons, squirrels, possums, rabits, foxes, chipmunks, wild turkeys, owls, hawks, woodpeckers, many otherbirds large and small, snakes, fairly large turtles and once even a bear (although the police came and took it away).
