Most of the stuff you work on anymore the schematics are not available because the manu wants you to replace the whole board. I physically trace out units and draw schematics with software. Years ago I did the Alesis 3630 and provided downloads.

This is the power supply for a Polaroid 32" LCD. First photo is the component side and second is the foil side which is hard to see sometimes without a magnifier. Zoom in and notice all the SMC (surface mount components) The third is a PDF of the partial schematic. (you need Adobe Reader) It is barely a start but many hours spent already. . This is a switching power supply. Zoom in on the PDF and notice the clarity. This can be printed and produces a pro quality schematic.

This thread was started on a whim but gives me the best idea yet. I can take macro photos of the foil side put them in paint and make notes and mark components. Also show starting and ending points of hard to see traces.

Us retired guys need something to do!!! ROFL

Or here's an idea if you're bored Ollie.....

Come to Oregon and revamp my music setup for me. I need new speaks, and a rack built (mine's not actually "portable", and I need it to be) , and my guitar amp needs fixed (the volume knob is tweaked) , my music room needs some soundproofing.... I could keep ya busy for a couple weeks anyhow:)

Progress report....

I got sidetracked with other things but still working on this. Schematic is about 3/4 done.

As an engineer and professional I have pioneered new techniques and broadened my profession in many ways. The second is a bitmap showing critical test points and marking traces that are not apparent. Just remember you first saw this technique here.

Almost done...

Im back in the TV repair business I guess. Just bought a 19 and 15" lcd to fix. I need some gigs LOL. This is too much like work>>

This is a professional schematic and I have learned how again to interpret the smd designations. This will be on sale on Ebay and will come with a parts list with data sheets and Mouser stock numbers for all transistors and macro photos of the trace side which shows component location and with notations and ponies. Also included is the SMD Code Book and known components that cause failure for this TV.

This project was two-fold. In the process I found the shorted components and will repair a 32" LCD. (I hope) Cost in parts? $4.50 otherwise $80-$100 for the power supply.

SMD is surface components and takes special rework stations to solder or unsolder. (hot air)

On schematic or photo zoom in and notice quality.
