I never get excited about new cdg's anymore. My KJ gets them pretty fast, and I'm so rare at karaoke these days that each time I show up, she has more new current stuff.

I was excited to see "People are Crazy" by Dierks Bentley on the May listing though, I'm dying to hear someone sing that one, love that song.

To be honest, I never get excited about anything that comes out on country music these days. It is not the cdg manufactures fault, I blame Nashville who has forgotten what country music really is. The stuff they are producing in Nashville these days, for the most part, is not really recognizable as country. That is just a view point of a born and raised cowboy from Texas, and not really worth anything to anyone but me. --Mike

I keep buying current hits in an effort to attract some new people but so far I'm the only one who sings them. U2's Joshua Tree album is considered up and coming by our crowd. I tend to buy the rock/pop stuff from others and rather than buy an entire disc of new songs from CB, I tend to just make a custom out of the ones that seem most promising. So many hits just seem to come and go and don't stand play through time. If someone requests a song I will get it but I don't just buy new songs as they come out because we don't have demand for them yet.

Similar to our situation - I sing the new stuff until others learn it - then I take it off my list. Not a lot of singers looking for the very latest stuff. Maybe it's just not that good? Don't know...

Additionally, people will drive me crazy requesting certain songs week after week (these are regulars, mind you) -- So I get it, they sing it once or twice and then it sits in the stale bread file....So, I'm pretty careful about buying now. It has to be very good and very popular. (Number of country singers really seems to have dropped off, whereas they used to be the majority.)

I only buy anymore what is requested. If I get new song reqeusts I will get them, but it just doesn't seem to happen, our crowd wants more from the 70's-early 2000. New country seems to do better than newer pop/rock.

But there ARE those of us who happen to agree with ya Mike... some of it's borderline, there are some newer songs I like, but mainstream country music these days is so blended with pop, and so falsely manufactured, it's not worth the time. Most of the singers.... you like their songs, then you hear them live and think "what the hell?". But I'm also a fan of the old, true country music... where to be famous, you actually had to have talent.

Way off topic... sorry. Just wanted to reply to Mike:)

I'll go a bit off topic and reply to Mike also. I remember when you could tell who was singing a country song the instant you heard their voice. It might not be the best singer but they were unique. Loretta sounded nothing like Dolly. When my friend went to Nashville during that time to try and make it as a singer they told her she sounded like Anne Murray and they already had an Anne Murray. Now someone gets famous and they try to get more who sound and look like them and I rarely know who I am listening to anymore. Well--hard to mistake the Sugarland lady for anyone else and I'm sort of intrigued with Lady Antebellum but there seems to be a lot of cloning going on.

PS: I do appreciate your lists, Gemini.

Maybe there will someday be a bumpersticker that says, "I was Country when Country wasn't Pop!"

I'm not too familiar with the songs on the list. I'll have to listen to them. I see that SC is doing Carrie Underwood's Home Sweet Home....a pop cross over.

A lot of newer songs don't make for good karaoke songs. The singers are using a lot effects on their voices.

I think most people like to pick songs that they can emulate well and some songs that is near impossible to do because of all the effects you'd need addded.

I pretty much buy all my current chart material as single downloads these days. My room actually does try new things, but only a few a month.

If someone asks for a song, I'll get it if it's available. Even if they only do it a few times and drop it. You know it's just two or three dollars as a downloaded single. No biggie.

Besides the effects, some of these people have incredible ranges. The songs aren't all that easy to do.

Like Lon I have a lot of my discs bought for me. I have regulars that want the newest songs as soon as they hit the shelves. They buy the discs and give them to me because they don'y go any where else to sing. I have 2 people doing that now, a male country singer and a male hard rock singer. Sometimes I have songs sung I haven't even heard of yet, next thing I know they are the hottest thing.

Bingo. By request only now. Until a couple of years back I used a subscription service. It ended up being a waste of time. Even the youngest demographic seems to sing stuff prior to around 2003 or 2004.

Are you talking about "Boom Boom Pow" perhaps?

I noticed a karaoke version has popped up on Buykaraokedownloads. But I don't know how you'd do it. It's absolutely the hottest thing right now though. I may buy it anyway just because it's there.

The only two songs I would be excited about are the two I have been looking for.

Ludo - Love Me Dead
Airborne Toxic Event - Sometime Around Midnight

When they make these I will be mildly excited.
