Post subject:  Burning and Playing downloaded karaoke songs ?
Hi,
I can download a VLC karaoke file, burn it to a cd and play it on my karaoke player.
However when I burn a mp3 + CDG file(s), the audio plays on my karaoke player but there is no graffics display. (I am new to burning my own karaoke cds) I would greatly appreciate any help.

Legalities aside....

First...most standard CD+G Karaoke players will not play mp3+CDG files as you have learned. These files are for software based players. Your's however must support MP3 discs however, as I am surprised you get any audio at all. Also, the discs must be burnt as CD+G discs in order to get graphics. Finally, be sure your CD Burner supports the burning of CD+G discs. Many do not.

Doesn't matter if he did. Except for Tyrannasoft, which only offers English mfrs. (legal) and a few others like them, NONE of the sites offering U.S. tracks are licensed by the artists or their orgs. ALL are unlicenced- Hence, illegal.

If you want at least SEMI-legal MP3s, you have to by the discs, rip them, and keep them for proof of ownership.

I only say SEMI-legal because the format shift for individuals is still undefined legally.

I dunno, Barry. I think most recent models ( a couple of years) do. I'm thinking that the problem lay in the ripping software.

But now accepted by Sound Choice at the very least. They even sell a karaoke software from their site to run a show completely from computer.

splash there are a couple of things you have to be aware of when attempting to burn cdg discs. One is you have to have a compatible burner

Some of the karaoke files on my computer are VLC which are actually AVi files. I can burn them to CD and they work fine on my Karaoke player. Now I guess what I need is a mp3+cdg to AVI converter for the other files?

And none of it is actually legal. They are using the "offshore end run" and working outside of U.S. court jurisdiction ( I believe in Australia). NONE of there tracks are licensed for digital download in the U.S..

By working overseas they avoid U.S. litigation, but that doesn't make the tracks we download legal or licensed.

A recent letter from Sound Choice claimed that they will be getting licensing SOON.

1) This tells me right off the bat that everything downloaded thus far is unlicensed.

2) If they were willing to download unlicensed tracks BEFORE the move overseas, why would they bother getting licensing now, when they are beyond the reach of U.S. courts?

At this time, there are no U.S. BASED mfrs. licensed for digital download.

You'll know when they are when they download a copy of the license with each track you get. Until that happens, the rest is just noise.

Again, Tyrannasoft, and some others are legal because they distribute from companies that ARE licensed in their home jurisdiction- in this case, the UK. Even then, I'm not sure of legality ( or at least liability) once the download is received here in the U.S., as many of these tracks, while licensed in the UK, are not licensed here. This means that although the U.K. mfr. may be legal, the U.S. karaoke host will still be liable, as they would be for Sound Choice tracks.

Soundchoice, RIIA ASCAP does not determine or amend the copyright laws. This is done by the congressional branch and if needed backed by the judicial branch. Our congress has not amended any copyright laws they are too busy tending to the people that have bought them out and own them. What Soundchoice or anybody else says does not have any bearing upon legal matters..........period period period....

It has been a while since I used this but I believe this will work for you. If I remember right, it will burn your mp3&g to avi files on a dvd.

That is telling him/her what he cannot do but doesnt give any idea what he can do and how...so no you didnt answer the question :)
