OK so the way I understand it..the usb from the laptop to the alpha is all I need for the music to get to the alpha...I can hear it but its almost all static...Hmm..so if I run a line out to the mixer then 2 Main line outs to the alpha line ins...well that does n ot work either..Should I be using the Alpha ASIO driver? Or the full duplex driver...? |

I just bought an Alpha on eBay. Using the Alpha drivers, I can hear myself sing and the music, but I can't get any reverb. The documentation from the Alpha says to use your computer's drivers. Then I can hear myself sing, but no music and I don't know how to use the reverb yet. There are four tutorials on how to use the Alpha. Access them by clicking on the help button in Cubase. I think I will have to become somewhat proficient at cubase's software in order to set-up the music input channel and find the lexicon reverb plug-in and use it. Please update to this thread anything that you find out that may help figure out how to use the Alpha and I will do the same. I read about the Alpha on this forum and everything was good, but there was no mention of the learning curve to learn how to use the Alpha and Cubase. |

I use Sonar but the basics are the same. You want to track the vocals on separate mono channels with a feed out of you mixer pref out of the compresser. You can live feed the music (no EFX) into a stereo track or you can import the music and sync it with the vocals . Mixing is then using the software mixer. I sometimes reroute through the external mixer to use the external audio procs to remaster. The process varies from system to system and even methods by different engineers. |

The process varies from system to system and even methods by different engineers. True but Sonar is more friendly Why not starting learning this multitrack and asio thing with Audacity or Kristal These software are free and very easy to learn http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/ |

So very true, I have Sonar Producer 7 but if I'm just doing a simple project or trying to create a sample for one of my keyboards 9 out of 10 times I will use Audacity. I'd like to help the OP, but it's been so long since I've used Cubase, I just don't remember much about it. When you start Cubase does it show the "Alpha" in the selection for sound card? I know with Sonar I have to tell it to use my Omega for both incoming and out going. Od course I have to tell Audacity that also. |

Kimowilliams... First thing you should do is update that alpha driver to 2.5 I think http://www.lexiconpro.com/ProductDownlo ... D=7&Type=1) ...It took me days to figure that out and I work all day on computer stuff...Yikes...Anyhoo...I did make some progress and have been able to record tracks and vocals...Not sure what I am doing as of yet so when I get more time on this thing I will update..I might just buy the Zed-14 and scrap this project...I really need a new miker I hate the Behringer mixer...I wonder if the zed-14 would sound better ... |

Sound better you say, hey, day & night my friend I changed my Mackie with the Zed 14 and I'm still in love The sound is amazing and talk about the mic pre-amps, wow, what a mixer This board has it's place in a hifi setup but I do suggest you use some good cables & speakers, it's well worth it!! And btw, you won't be needing an external sound card anymore, the board has a USB card and you get Sonar disk for FREE |

Yea I should have done this months ago...We use the EON 15 g2's and we are just going to buy the 518s sub...at 65 lbs and 500 w 1000 peak it will really help and save my back at the same time... One step at a time though...Zeds first...Mickey...everyone has been raving about this mixer and the reviews have been very good in all seriousness is the clarity that much better..? |

If you have been using a Behringer (or pretty much any of the popular mixers used by most here) it shouldn't take you to long to realize that the Behringer is a mixer in name only. I'm sure you will not be disappointed. The first time you twist a knob or push of a fader you will discover the Zed is no toy. Here is a link to one of the more extensive Allen & Heath Zed discussions on this board. http://www.karaoke-forum.com/viewtopic. ... llen+heath |

Thanks I have read that thread before and it is very good...tons of very useful stuff...I am sure the sound quality is night and day...we use a DriveRack® PX Powered Speaker Optimizer as well so I would have to beleive that I won't beleive my ears and I will be kicking myself for not doing this earlier... |
