When I ripped these to the hard drive I added an extra half second of silence to the beginning of each track using Goldwave.

Ron was the little salesman and businessman. He would put in his ads "Availble at K-Mart, Woolco, etc, etc etc, andhe wasn't even in them. People wouldgo to these retailers looking for the product and of course to keep customers happy, they would go to Ron and put his product in their stores.

Who remembers "Hair In A Can".

One thing about his products, they were either revolutionary and great or just plain awful. I don't think there was a middle ground.

Weren't they popular back in the 70's on vinyl? Are they starting to make some now on CD??? Not sure if this is what you are talking about, tho. Ron Popeil was the owner and founder of that company, named RonCo. He also sold little clever inventions, like the Pocket Fisherman.

I still have some of the albums. If I recall, they were pretty good, but ( again, if memory serves) they may have sped up the tempo on some to fit them all on the record. Sounded good though....

They DID speed them up to fit more songs on the record! And the pocket fisherman is AWESOME! I have 3 of them, one for me, hubby, and our daughter. Great for trudging through the bush to get to those great fishing holes!

Not only did they speed them up, they also cut them short at the end of the songs. But, they were the original artists..... Anybody wanna go fishing???? Grab your Pocket Fisherman, and let's go get "jig'gy...hehe

I suspect you're referring to the K-TEL original artist CDGs! I have them (12 total I think) and obviously they are original artist so sound great. The graphics run about a half second slow and there is little / no lead-in time or countdowns. Basically if you know the song they are great, if you're a 'read and sing' kind of person then you'll end up being more behind than normal! I have a few of these K-Tell CDGs as well; six or so. I also have a copy of Goldwave. I downloaded the latest version (not sure what version that is now) in Dec 07. I didn't know that the program had the capability of ripping CDGs. What version is it that rips CDGs? And did you add the time to provide a longer lead-in or to sink the lyrics with the music? If the latter is true, how does this process work?

Wow, the pocket fisherman. Goes back a ways. Fits in the golf bag which is great on backed up par 3 waterholes. The ol' ktel albums? I had them all. Go away little girl, speak to the sky, hold your head up, go all the way, sighhhh, those were the days. I had my own phonograph in 7th grade.

He ducked legal action because he ads said "Ask for them at..." and people simply did what they were told.

Of course he's still in business! The difference is now he sells all kinds USEFUL things that actually WORK! Best new item is the rotisserie. But I still say the pocket fisherman is the best of all time! K-tel went bankrupt and he now sells under his own name: Ron Popeil. http://www.ronco.com/

The ads always closed with "Available at these fine stores..." and then the audio and slide tags were added at the local level. The spots were co-ops with the participating stores. You could always tell when it got close to the Christmas season because we would get spots for just about everything they made and would have to tag them and make dubs for the other stations in the area. It would usually take at least a week to get all the spots tagged, they were cute the first couple of times you did them, but after the seventh or eighth pass for different stores they got old. But then of course there was the unforgettable doggie toothbrush.

Ron Popeil (Ronco) has nothing to do with K-Tel records, though there is is an early connection through Ron's father. "The founder of K-Tel was Canadian Philip Kives. Before moving onto compilation LP records, Kives, a fast-talking demonstration salesman who had previously sold cookware door-to-door, harnessed the power of television to sell Teflon-coated frying pans of dubious quality. It sounds interesting to me. They have 5 of them at karaoke.com for $3.88 each if you buy 3 or more at once. I grew up on K-tel, but I mostly miss their disco and late 70s pop hits that I do not see on the group offered at karaoke.com.

I have two of the cdgs, and they're pretty good. The analysis earlier is spot on. If you know the songs, they're good, but the syncing on the words will throw off most people who are the read and sing variety. Reminds me of many of the Music Maestro discs, only these sound better! !
