Post subject:  Speaker model number???
Hey all... My brother gave me a couple three-way soundtech speakers that I want to use for home use. The problem is that the wiring inside is totally "fubared" and some of the parts need to be replaced. I called Soundtech with the numbers I could find of the speakers, crossover, etc. I even gave them a discription of the speaker cabinet, but all they could say was "we can't help you, and if we can't, then no one else can either." Please help me prove them wrong.

The cabinets are about 24 inches tall X 20 inches wide X 18 inches deep.

The front of the cabinets sport a 15" woofer with these numbers on them:
15715
16 ohm
67-8850 G1

Above the woofer is a horn tweeter with these numbers on them:
Foster 325N30

The SIDE of the cabinet has a 6" or 6 1/2" mid speaker with these letters on them:
STS and a phone number which was useless.

The crossover on the inside has this on it:
ST-X01 and ST-X1

What I'm hoping to find is a wiring diagram for these speakers as well as a model number so I can start looking for replacement parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would say they were the H15SM or H15SMSTS model, but the dimensions you stated are different, these were 27 x 19 x 11 1/4. Otherwise they seem like they were they same design. 15" & horn on front with a 6" side mounted speaker to act as a built in stage monitor. It had it's own volume control independent from the mains. It could be ordered on either the left or right side to fit your needs.
Doesn't sound like the exact same one, but the wiring should be pretty close. Can't find any info on them on any searches. They weren't very popular as far as I remember.
The STS meant they were cast aluminum frames. The 6" side speaker was actually supposedly a "full range" speaker & not a midrange. This speaker system is actually a 2 way system with a side fill monitor!

What exactly is wrong with the wiring & or drivers?? You don't necesarily need to use original components if your drivers are bad (Sound Tech drivers weren't that good to begin with). As far as drivers & crossovers go, you can get MUCH better!!! But is it worth it???

Thanks Lonman... You can always be counted on to come through with an answer. I don't have the speakers here with me at work, so I was sort of guessing at the dimensions. What you described though sounds exactly like what I've got. As far as what's wrong with the components, one of the horns is blown and all the wires are hotwired with duct tape in every which direction with both back plates broken and the volume controls either broken or missing with no connections at all between the input jacks and the crossovers. So I will look into replacing the componets with better parts if it's worth it. But like I said, it's for home use, so it doesn't need to fill a dance hall or anything like that. Thanks for the lead though.

this may be the scenario too..

sometimes the box gets damaged or they didn't like the box it came in.. so some musician/engineer may have changed the box it or components that it came in or with. we have seen this a few times.. OR it may have been an imported or discontinued item and no parts are available for the item. I have been real good at replacing SoundTech with Eminence or EV items. (just use your head when doing it)

Thanks SW. If I can't find the Soundtech parts by tomorrow or Friday, I'll do just that. :)
