Just received a call from a venue I did THURSDAY night shows last year for.
They close for the Winter and previously decided due to the times that they were going to stay closed.
WELL THEY CHANGED THEIR MINDS and now in 3 weeks they will be open and I should have a steady gig until ( November) .
That gives me 3 weeks to update my library and print new books !!!!

Did a big Memorial Weekend sway their decision? Or were they even open last weekend? Whatever the reason, congrats! I remember you loving this gig last summer.

I did like doing this gig last year. NOT sure what is making them open up again.
They've been closed since November. The owners own the strip mall plus some property right outside a 6flags amusement park here in NJ so maybe they didn't need the restaurant and bar ???? I don't know --just glad they decided to open up again.

It is funny how things work out --I'm still waiting for this venue to confirm a start date but ..RECEIVED another call from a local restaurant/Bar to come down tonight and discuss a WED night show --sort of a Happy Hour thing 6pm-10pm
This place is a SEASONAL bar overlook the bay and I would be on the DECK outside in good weather , for the afterwork and earlybird crowds. THIS IS NOT CONFIRMED yet but I do have a meeting tonight --which was set up by a regular at one of my past shows who had my card and was talking to the Manager.
Keep my fingers crossed -- I could go from NO gigs to 2 gigs at least for the summer !

Best of luck with this - funny how that happens, isn't it. BTW, I do the kind of show you are describing - the 'happy hour' thing - it is amazingly successful. It is really surprising the number of people who will go out early (and most have dinner), sing for an hour or so, and be happy to go home by 10:30 or so. This will be our first night on the outdoor stage - we've waited along time for this weather, so I'm hoping we'll draw an even larger crowd. As luck would have it, the local farmer's market takes place at the same time so I'm hoping that the sound drifting through the air will draw spectators and singers. It was a great singer from another time who recommended us for this as well - I continually acknowledge him for his support.
Good luck on your meeting. Get that system to work!

Count me among that group. This is my favorite kind of show, by far. I get a chance to have a nice dinner, spend time with my wife, sing, and get home early. Heaven.

Yup, I am wondering why more places don't try this.

Well the meeting with venue #2 went well - I have a date and a show next FRIDAY - 6 -10 or 7- 11 time slot . Outside umder cover overlooking the bay. Owner told me he is looking for "fun" summer type songs .. IE like the bar and song Margaritaviile
No hip hop club musics as they play that INSIDE later in the night .
So its like an AUDITION to see how it goes ..standard rate pay for the area.
now I just need a list of SONGS to fit the bill of a summer outside laid back atmosphere .....
