When I wrote my own hosting program I decided to keep a log of every single song played in the database. This is what the all time top 20 from March 2008 to now looks like! (sorry about the formatting)

+------------------------------+-------------------------+-------+
| artist | songtitle | count |
+------------------------------+-------------------------+-------+
| George Strait | Amarillo By Morning | 93 |
| Merle Haggard | Swinging Doors | 81 |
| Ricky Van Shelton | Statue Of A Fool | 81 |
| Johnny Cash | Folsom Prison Blues | 79 |
| Hank Williams Jr. | Family Tradition | 73 |
| Kris Kristofferson | Why Me | 72 |
| Elvis Presley | Unchained Melody | 65 |
| Sylvia | Nobody | 60 |
| Buckcherry | Crazy (@$%&#!) | 54 |
| Toby Keith | I Love This Bar | 52 |
| Patsy Cline | Crazy | 52 |
| Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow | Picture | 51 |
| Alan Jackson & George Strait | Murder On Music Row | 50 |
| Johnny Cash | Ring Of Fire | 48 |
| George Jones | She Thinks I Still Care | 48 |
| Ella Fitzgerald | Summertime | 47 |
| Grease | Summer Nights | 47 |
| George Jones | Bartender's Blues | 46 |
| Hank Williams | Your Cheatin' Heart | 46 |
| Carrie Underwood | Before He Cheats | 45 |
+------------------------------+-------------------------+-------+

I've actually played 1992 different songs during that time period from a library that grew from 8114 to 10972 unique songs in that time. Curiously, only one person sang 'Swinging Doors' and 'Why Me'... I think he qualifies as a 'regular'.

"Crazy (@$%&#!)" kind of sticks out of the pack I'd say. What do your traditional country singers think about that? And if you have singers doing "Crazy (@$%&#!)", do they also sing "(@$%&#!) her Gently", "She Hates Me", and "Chasey Lain"? And do you allow it? They all get done by the same type of singers in my room.

Interesting list there! I am a little surprised Summertime is so far up the list as I always thought it might be a more difficult song to sing.

Yeah I was kind of thinking the same thing. But around here it's more bar to bar because those songs are popular in other rooms. I don't even know if I have "Statue Of A Fool". "Amarillo" has been done a few times though.

Jonn mentions that only one person sings a couple of these songs. The very definition of a "regular".

I've got a guy like this. A pool player who's always there when I start. He never misses. He only sings once. He only sings "Play Something Country". If I were to put up a list like this it would look like that song is very popular when in reality there's only one singer who does it, and he's not even in there for karaoke really. He's just in there to shoot pool and grabs a song on the way out.

Yup Crazy B**** does actually go down well, sung by many people. Fudge Her Gently I only got maybe 3 months ago and that also goes down well (sung by 1 person so far). Chasey Lain... sung once or at most twice and it had <5% approval rating. She Hates Me 'feels' popular too!

Typically we start off with the slow 'regular' songs and then later on the night gets going with the younger crowd. As the night shifts so does the music, the couple of dance tracks at the end of the night are more rap/hip-hop heavy than pop/country... in an 'authentic Texas honky-tonk' who knew!

Different areas have different country, too. Folsom Prison Blues is everywhere, of course. And I see Amarillo By Morning occasionally. But Swinging Doors? Not often at all, and outside of my very country area I have never seen it or Statue Of A Fool. I have *never* seen Why Me done -- don't even know the song much less have it in my very country library. Murder on Music Row is virtually never done.

One night it was slow and about 3 of us were playing around Next thing we knew we were all singing Why Me. I sing gospel and this is a good one.

Yep, it sure must be regional.

I've never had these songs sung from your top list:

Merle Haggard | Swinging Doors
Ricky Van Shelton | Statue Of A Fool
Kris Kristofferson | Why Me
Sylvia | Nobody
Alan Jackson & George Strait | Murder On Music Row
George Jones | She Thinks I Still Care
Ella Fitzgerald | Summertime
George Jones | Bartender's Blues

Country songs are sung in the bar, but it's mostly rock & roll

I don't do much karaoke, more live music than anything, but I have a friend who does a karaoke show every Saturday night and I can tell you whether it is live or karaoke, in my part of Texas, if you sing anything by George Strait, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, George Jones, Johnny Rodriguez, Gene Watson, Waylon Jennings, or Johnny Bush, you are going to draw a strong crowd. The Top 2 artists songs in my list must be done the most. They dont like anything hardly coming out of Nashville now. They will complain and tell you they think Nashville has lost its mind and gone away from its country roots. Traditional country will win everytime with every crowd. Even the younger kids may listen to other music, but they always come back to traditional country. it is amazing how much different things are across our state, even more across our country.---Mike
