I use Fast Tracks for my books. They have two versions, one costing less than the other due to different features. The higher costing version has the ability to do either disc based lists and digital books while the cheaper version does not have those features but is stuck with disc based books. both will tie into Compuhost's database.

I also use Access. Great for customizing & database storgage plus entering the music in yourself, you get to know your library much better & can curb spelling errors & disc misprints the canned database/bookmakers so often have.

Sorry to piggy-back here but, speaking of Access (which I have no experience with yet), Will it import Excel files? (which is what my current books are formatted in). As a long-term project, I’d like to create some custom books by category; such as genre & year.

yes supposedly quite easily.

I'll be honest, I didn't import per say, as much as started the fields myself, and then copy and paste directly into the input area that has the separate fields... the bottom being the * field. It confirms you're posting 50 lines or so... very easy to put them all in. I tried a couple times to import, and I didn't like the results, but then again, I wasn't that big of an Access user!

KJ Pro does, with the click of a button. I also think it's the best book software out there. Yes, it will also, with a click, create any kind of custom book out there. It also has what I believe to be the best music search and import database around. Though of course you can enter tracks manually, you can also enter all info by clicking the disc number.

Plenty of fonts and styles, and will print books by title, artist, disc number, or catalogue for inventory- all with a click.

I love it, but it's no freebie. The money is well spent though. Ease of use and the resulting books make it truly worthwhile.

..... and no, I'm not associated with KJ Pro in any way- just a truly satisfied customer.

I use FastTrack for song books myself. I really like it for a couple of reasons. While the database is not perfect, it does save me a lot of time entering karaoke disc data. Just a couple of clicks and it's done. One other feature I like is that when you choose a disc, it tells you which tracks duplicates. So, if I find a discs I like, I can type in the manu and choose the right disc, I can tell if too many of the songs are dupes, then I may choose another disc.

One of major short coming for FastTrack is the UI. The UI looks and functions like it's from the DOS era, not modern window interface. For example, if you want to make changes to multiple songs, it won't let you do it.

If you can get used to the interface, I think it's a solid product.

Hi Sanj,

If you have your songs ripped to hard drive there is no easier way to create a song book than Latshaw song list generator.

I use KJ Pro, it's very simple to use easy to update new discs that aren't loaded into KJ Pro yet. I usually update it every 6 months or so and manually add new discs.
