Yo, I'm King Turi and I do karaoke sometimes (not a host just a dude).

Anyway, I found this forum when I searched "most overdone karaoke songs" and yeah, so long story short - I'm in state finals for a world karaoke competition, and I'm really unsure of what to sing, was hoping for some suggestions.

I can sing basically anything, I planned on singing "The Prayer" by Anthony Callea, already registered it with the venue, but I've been told by a few people who have got to this stage that that song seems to get done every year for some reason, and they seem to think the judges might criticize me if I screw any of it up, since it's a "technical song" or some crap, basically I nail the entire song with ease, but some people who support me think I should do something which hasn't been each year sorta thing.

I've been told by numerous people that "Unchained Melody" would be my best bet, even though it gets done a lot, it hasn't been done each year at this particular stage and since I'm relatively young (21), it might throw the judges off a little, since that song wouldn't really fit my stereotype (I look like I'd sing something from say 2000 onwards).. so it could work in my favour.
But "The Prayer" has the same thing going for it, and in my opinion, it wouldn't get as harshly criticized as "Unchained Melody" since everyone and their dog has an opinion on how that song should be sung.

So yeah, any great competition worthy song suggestions would be nice and I'll be sure to check this forum out a little more tomorrow, got some fishin' to do right now haha.

Hi King-

Songs that work well in contests seem to be the ones that stir emotion. A song that comes to mind is "I'll Be" by the Goo Goo Dolls.

You will probably get more responses to your post in the discussion room. This area is more for intos.

Welcome aboard and good luck !

Never heard that song by the Goo Goo Dolls, I'll have to check it out.

Is it the same as Edwin Starr's "I'll Be"?

I'll repost this in the discussion area then haha

Yes it is the same one. Sorry I was trying to remember who sung it. I think Edwin Starr is the one you'd want.
