I saw a "closeout deal" for some Tapco speakers. It seems like these would work great for my home karaoke, but I know little about the brand (although I see they are "by Mackie"). In your opinions, is this a good deal or a sucker's bet for a newbie like me?

You must have a massive house. You could provide enough sound for a decent-sized auditorium with those.

As far as sound goes, I don't know that model. But I used a pair of Tapco "Thump" for a little over a year, and thought quality was OK. We ended up replacing them with Yamaha Club S112V speakers, which I like better with the Tapco 18" subs. But they are OK, and for the money they would be fine if you had enough amp to push them.

I have the Tapco 6912 12" speakers.
Got to tell you these are great sounding speakers( close-out for $119 each)
I just set them up out side to test them for an outside gig, and was very impressed at how loud they were.
Stood about a hundred yards away, and they were awsome outside!!
The speakers your considering should be much better then mine.
Worth the money!

I like the way they have 1200watts in big letters. Thats Program watts its 600watts Continuous power. If they sound good looks like a great deal.

To the OP, those speakers will be pretty nice, although they're a step down from their Mackie bretheren. They'd be overkill for most rooms in any house, we use the Mackie powered version of those speakers for our band when we play in larger clubs. We've even used them for a couple of outdoor gigs. My thought is you could probably save yourself a lot of money by going with a smaller setup if this is only going to be used in your house. Bear in mind those things stand almost 4 feet tall, they're not like your typical stereo speakers.

I agree every company advertises their peak numbers but just saying how this one had it rigth out in front. On the JBL 525 it starts off with 650 watts continuous power then in its specs states 1300watts peak power. I have seen companys promote continuous power on their advertisement and another promote Peak which can be deceiving to some. But this is a powerful speaker I agree overkill if its being used in a home setup.
