I use two alesis 3630 compressors. Before I had compressors years ago singers would clip my amp (Crown CE 1000) in a heartbeat.... Everything would die and the only thing you'd hear was the post singnal reverb!!! LOL it sounded god awful when that happened. So I got the compressor and alleviated the amp clipping problem. However it still seems to me like I am constantly riding the faders on singers channels to control volume... What am I doing wrong? Does anyone else use the Alesis 3630 who can offer some input? :D

Every singer is different! Remember that. NO piece of processing is the "All in one miracle fix". If you are no longer clipping your amp, obviously the compressor is doing it's job. With every singer being different, you "MAY" need to change the setting for the compressor every song, or move the fader up/down. All the compressor is going to do is level out peaks, which obviously it's doing. If you want to not have to "ride the fader" look at a peak stop limiter - but even this may need an adjustment for different singers.

Thanks Lonman! It's actually a relief to know that I am not "technically" doing anything wrong.
