Hi all..
How are you doing??
Lots of rock songs are there, but not all of them are suitable for karaoke setting. Just wondering some good good rock songs, Preferably something that people can sing along to a rock song with an epic chorus.

Please help.

If the songs that you are looking for are for YOU, then there is an acute info shortage- like, what are YOUR favorite songs to sing? The bottom line is that all songs are appropriate for karaoke, but may or may not be for a specific venue. What's not appropriate in a nice restaurant may standard fare in a biker bar.

If you are looking for songs to add to a hosting collection, the "best" ones are the ones that are most popular and/or most requested by your singers.....

To be honest, I'm not really sure exactly what you are asking.

Absolutely anything YOU feel like singing?!?!?! What do you feel is unsuitable? We get alot of crowd response to Bodies - Drowning Pool, Walk - Pantera, Sweet Dreams - Marilyn Manson, Rooster - Alice In Chains, Almost anything Metallica, on down to the classic rock of the 70's & 80's & 90's alternative.

It also depends on what you call Rock... punk rock, 70s rock, glam rock, acid rock, pop rock, headbangers rock...

Check out SC's headbangers pack that is available out there... good songs all the way around.

Also, many of their spotlights featuring the "All Made Up" on top of the 70s and 80s discs... way too many to even come close to mentioning!

My advice, pick some of YOUR favorite songs, and choose the ones in your voice range. Don't be a "Gokey" and sing a song where you can't hit ALL the notes. (Danny Gokey from AI#8 sang "Dream On" by Aerosmith, missed the scream note and lost the semifinal.)

You also have to size up the audience. Ask the KJ what goes over well at his or her venue. Do what songs you have emotional connections to.

When you sing a song great, and the audience joins in, that's karaoke nirvana. Here's hoping you get to experience it soon...

Nice rock songs for karaoke? The Who. I do lots of R&B and hip-hop songs, but I sing all sorts of songs, and people at my usual place seem to like Who stuff. It's odd to say this for a group as well-known as they are, but they really seem to get overlooked in terms of having epic/exalted status.

But then, though I'm definitely not Roger Daltrey and make no claim at such, my range is somewhat similar to his. Anything that grabs your fancy and that you KNOW you can do will work. If you ask me to do, say, "Bodies" by Drowning Pool, "Crazy B---h" by Buckcherry or any AC/DC or Van Halen record, it won't be pretty. I know, because I've tried them.

As hosts we are probably more aware than ever of what a room might need song-wise for a given situation - I have a pocketful of songs that I can pull out to change the mood - for example, The Trooper by Iron Maiden soothes the savage souls of the macho pool players LOL....and last night I threw in "Bring Me to Life" as a huge group of 20-somethings rolled in - then "Say it Right" by Furtado at the end - they all came running up, introduced themselves, told me how much they appreciated the songs I sang 'for them.' Yah, right...Part of the job. I could see they wanted to wiggle it a little before they had to go home. Worked like a charm - everyone left in a good mood without an argument that the show as already over (we stop at 1:30 a.m.)

Sing what you like as those are usually (I say usually but not always) the songs that we sing well. A good strong bass beat is always good, and always choose the best version of a song if you have the option. Upbeat is good although if the room is full of metal heads, Drowning Pool and songs of that ilk are preferred by the room. No sense in alienating a room. Are you a host or a singer?

If it's in your range, Journey seems to always be a hit. Mellencamp is also a good standby, as is Bruce Springsteen (Born in the USA for some reason is always well received.) Songs that the crowd recognizes are preferred as well - creating that sense of involvement in the crowd is good - everyone loves to sing a long and it gets people in the mood somehow to get up and sing even if they're not usually singers.

MikeHL,

Does 5:15 by the Who go over well? I found it on a SGB disc of mine and always wanted to try it. Always thought it was too old school.

Hi Marc! It's funny you should mention "5:15". I actually just got it about a week ago -- recently enough that I haven't had the chance to try it yet. The SGB rendition of it sounds serviceable, though. If many of the folks who frequent your room were around when Quadrophenia was out, they'll definitely like it. (I wasn't around then -- born in 1978 about 6 months before the Loon Keith Moon died -- but I have NEVER had a problem doing Who records in the place I frequent most even though this is a rural area where most people do country records, and only country.)

One caveat, though -- one of the reasons the folks where I sing like me as much as they do is that I sing things they either haven't heard before or haven't heard in a looooooong time. If you think folks where you are might know "5:15", or would appreciate it even though they may not know it, SGB's rendition of it will certainly get the job done.

Edit -- I'll have to try "5:15" soon and get back to you on that.

Mike,

Yeah. Let me know how it goes over. I'm heading down to Wilmington in July to sing with my bud (who's also a DJ/KJ). Trying to think of something 'different' since he knows all my old tricks. Any ideas? I'm thinking a little Dave Matthews Band or some Hootie.

BTW, oneofakind, I can kill on Foreigner. By best by far has to be "I don't wanna live without your love". Wish I had the stones to do "Juke Box Hero" or "Hot Blooded".

"With or Without You" by U2 goes over with college kids.
Surprisingly found that "I can't Dance" by Phil Collins / Genesis went over very well.
"Authority Song" by John Cougar (Mellencamp)

Journey is now a karaoke cliche. but you must start out with "Eyusta" instead of the pronounced "Just a" for Dont Stop Believing.
