This past week, the online karaoke site Singsnap.com announced they would be forced to remove Chartbuster karaoke backings from the site, making them no longer usable for recording on the site. This also caused the removal of all user recordings that were made with Chartbuster backings.

The interesting part of this is that Singsnap claims this was the result of failed negotiations to extend the contract with Chartbuster, while Chartbuster states in a press release that there was never any agreement in place, and that they were never compensated for the use of their backings on the site. Singsnap has been in operation for nearly 3 years, using Chartbuster and other tracks.

Who do you believe?

Unless SingSnap can provide documentation, I'll go with Chartbuster. As I mentioned in another thread a UK based download site has unauthorized tracks from Canadian manufacturers.

Don't know what the relationship is but when mycdg.com quit operating, if you tried to access their website it went directly to SingSnap instead. mycdg is evidently being sued by both Chartbuster and Sound Choice for copywright infringement. Maybe SingSnap is now a part of that same deal.

Over selling of tracks has been going on for years..

IF and agreement is signed for 1,000 tracks, the books never say more than 1,000.

No matter they may have sold 100,000 tracks.. or more..

That's why the track owners are up in arms..

The greed starts at the top.. Sort of like politics..

Possible mycdg is being sued but then said well hell if we're going down, we'll redirect our page to another that isn't licesned for the tracks as well.

Probably not, but never know.

Mycdg.com was apparently owned by the same company (Eat Sleep Music)

True, they are owned by the same co.--and also interesting that Chartbuster is dabbling in a sort of SingSnap thing on their own site. For now, they just have a few songs up with guide vocals so you can learn new songs. But I could see it being developed into more as time goes on. Their parent company, Tennessee Productions, inc. has their hand in a lot of different karaoke related businesses.

It is hard to imagine that something as prominant as SingSnap and MyCDG could have gone on as long as they did without some sort of agreement having been in place but you never know.
