I picked up the Voco Pro KJM-7900 last week from Karaoke Headquarters http://www.karaokeheadquarters.com because I heard a commercial for 25% to 50% off karaoke equipment and I am trying to get the stupid echo features to work correctly! Anyone have any tips?

For the most part it is the same as the VocoPro KJ-6000 I used before with a lot more clutter on it. It really seems to be great, but I don't know if I actually needed all the features or not. I would grade it as a B so far, if I figure it out before my next show I would say an A.

Now that's Karaoke Baby!

I hate to say this, but even if you do get the echo working, it won't be a big thing  Echo sounds bad, what you need is a reverb

I can't believe Vocopro is still in business, I always feel bad for someone that buy's their products :!: Vocopro is not cheap in price and the quality is, well, I won't say it...

You might want to look at the option of getting an external reverb if you do have the aux send option on this mixer

PS. sorry for been negative toward your new purchase, beside the echo not working, hope you're still pleased with it

I do actually LOVE Voco Pro, but to be honest I didn't really use a lot of features in the past, I had more of a simple setup. I used a Voco Pro mixer previously and loved it. However, as I have been upgrading in the last year or so, I have been getting more into features and effects.

You may be right about the echo, I will test it out for a bit longer and then take your advise if needed. The only problem is I will be upset buying a Mixer for $379 and not being able to use all the features. I could see if it were a very cheap Mixer, but this is regular $610.

Again, it may just need some playing with, but thanks a lot for the advise, I want to at least get comfortable with it before Saturday.

If it isn't working - take it back before you waste your money.

I googled your mixer and it is on sale on a lot of sites. I found a lot of them 50% off. That would make me wonder why.

I am not a fan of Voco Pro either, but if you are positive you want to keep it. Try calling the manufacturer for help.

Do you really need a DJ mixer? For less, here's what you can get that has a built in reverb & compression and let's not forget BETTER mic imputs

http://www.zzounds.com/item--YAMMG124CX

Vocopro at 50% is in fact getting closer to its actual value, it's still over price for the low end components it uses but just forget about their regular price, that's marketing, it is not worth that much

It's a home brand for beginners, I wouldn't recommend anyone running a show with their products :!:

I agree with Babs, I know you love the brand or the purple  but I would bring it back and look at buying a Yamaha or even a Behringer that has a built in DSP :D

Hi.

I think I am not being clear. I am NOT saying it doesn't work, I am asking for tips on how to make it work correctly, you know inside scoop. My question is to KJ's using the same equipment. I DO like Voco Pro because I have used them for YEARS, I just have been upgrading as I can afford it and doing more special tricks with both regular music and karaoke.

Of course if it was broken, I would be getting my money back NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is not the issue.

That I think is the problem. 90% of the kj's here don't/won't use VocoPro due to various reasons.
Looking at the manual, you need to turn the Aux 2 knob up - put it to 10:oclock to start. Mic channels only, you don't need eacho on the music.
Next on that same channel should be an Aux 2 on/off switch, turn it on.
In the Echo section, there is also an on/off switch. Turn it on.
Next to the echo section to the left in the middle, should be a knob marked Aux 2 master, this will need to be turned up - again, try the 10 oclock position.
Now you should be hearing the effect. You adjust the length of the echo/delay in the echo section with the appropriate knobs. If it's too much, then back down the Aux 2 on the channel strips.
Give this a shot. The echo is actually pretty cheesy sounding, you would be better off getting an external for a good reverb.

KaraokeBaby, as stated above, almost everyone here is a VocoPro Hater. I have some base line settings that should help you get your sound right. On the right side of your board, there are 3 knobs, Delay, Repeat, and Echo. Try this as a starting point, remembering these settings may need to change depending on your venue. Try turning all 2 knobs to just past center, maybe 2 lines past. Just to the bottom right of the knobs is the echo on/off button. If this button is not pressed, you get no delay, echo, or repeat. The AUX 2 button needs to be on.

On the mic channels, turn the AUX 2 knob to about 10 o'clock on the dial, or just a little more than 25% of the knobs max. This should give you a good baseline to work from. The only knob I am not sure of is the master Echo. At worst you wil need to turn that down if the sound isn't right. I don't use that mixer, but the KJ-7800 Pro. Took me a while to get it sounding right, but sounds great now.

Felix the KJ

Thanks "Lonman" and "fsapienjr"

Your tips are really great! I am just so frantic right now, just like I usually am when I get new equipment. I have been playing with it, and your tips are helping. I will just need to get the hang of it, once I use it in various venus, and you are right that does matter. This is a major upgrade for me, I am NOT a rich KJ like some people act like they are, also I am NOT a hater either, so I wish everyone the best, because that's Karaoke Baby!

P.S. Thanks again, you guys are the BEST!

I think that is partly what most people don't like about VP products, is the price is typically very high for the actual product itself and what they tend to offer featurewise, when you can get much better equipment for half the cost.

Glad the tips are helping you out. Once you get them working, make sure you do not overdo the effect. You do not really want to hear the effect, but know if it wasn't there. Effects shouldn't accent a vocal, not dominate. I have heard some places that the effects are so overbearing you sound like you are in a cathedral.

What I like about Voco Pro is that they are built to last. Years ago I only purchased cheap equipment and I have to replace it over and over again, and they don't have resell value. Now I save up for good stuff and best of all I can get something out of the old stuff because it is still good. I got half of what I paid for my old Mixer after lots of use on eBay.com. So in the long run for me I think it is cheaper to buy quality. Maybe I was just unlucky in the past, but I don't really take chances anymore.

Trust me I am tempted to buy cheaper stuff all the time, but I just don't want to deal wtih it anymore. The only think I buy cheap is my Disc, because most of the time it is about the same, except for some obvious cheap quality stuff that most KJs/DJs know about.

Thanks Again "Lonman" you are helpful and to the point! Headed back to the garage to do some more testing.

Which mixers are you talking about? VP has very little resale value for the most part.

You can run a succesful and quality Karaoke show with equipment from many lower end mfgs. I stared out using a VOCOPRO mixer like the one mentioned and as I've always stated their products had GREAT FEATURES for Karaoke. Their quality is subject but the biggest complaint I have about VOCOPRO products is THEIR COST .....THEY ARE JUST WAY TO EXPENSIVE for what you get.

If they were CHEAP ... I could understand

I think a VocoPro user with an ear becomes a non-VocoPro user quite quickly. Anyone want to buy a KJ-6000? Originally cost $200.00, will let go for $50.00 shipped. 8-)

voco-pro has excellent SUPPORT...

you have a problem, contact their number and they're johnny on the spot with service, replacement, etc. I'll never fault them for that.

But I prefer buying equipment that's not prone to having such problems.

I too started out with a karaoke mixer. It wasn't Voco-pro, but it was the AKJ7000. It's STILL going strong, although the reverb FINALLY went out in it (you have to crank it all the way to get any echo/reverb effect). I used these for years and years with only a channel going down on the speaker outs. I had another channel, so I swiched to that, and never had a problem since.

I do like my Mackie though... wish I'd have gone with the CFX rather than the DFX model. I went cheaper, and that's exactly what I got. No midrange!

I'm not saying a show can't be run successfully with the lower end stuff. It just boggles my mind, the stuff is WAY overpriced for the actual product, hold no resale value. Why I questioned about which mixer she had used before that were cheaper but not reliable.
The Yamaha MG124CX comes in at half the price of the VP mixer, has better mic preamps, much better full digital effects (not just a home level echo effect) built in, compressor built in on the mic channels, hold it's resale value much better, but when someone trying to save money, chooses a mixer that is double the cost & doesn't do or sound half as good. Talk about brand loyal......I have just never heard that with VP before. Interesting to say the least.

I agree the big problem with vocopro is its PRICE and then comes its quality LOL
