Just visit www.thekaraokechannel.com and you can download tracks in wmv or mp4 format for $1.49 ea. The Karaoke Channel is part of Stingray Digital (based in Canada) who purchased the bulk of Sound Choice's assets back in 2007. Of course, these tracks do not say Sound Choice on them but they have the same 'look and feel'.

Just for those that didn't know!

Aw, c'mon... Been through this. Nothing from SC is legal for use by U.S. Karaoke Hosts- unlicensed here.

Go ahead and ask for a copy of the license per track....and good luck.

This company is since Sound Choice is partners with them.

yep, John at SC publicly disclosed this from one of the owners over at the SCBB. Stingray IS their new partner, so if they offer the downloads, it's legit.

These aren't MP3+G files, are they?

Yes, and while you can play them in Hoster or Compuhost you can't put them in the song database.

Sound Choice could have captured a lot of my business away from SBI, probably. Even if I had to pay $2.00 per track, I probably would. But now I will continue to cherry-pick a few very common songs and buy custom disks.

In Winamp you can import them into the database.

I've been following this thread from it's start. And my question is this:

If Stingray Digital purchased these tracks from SC, why wouldn't they release them in a format that people actually use? This is just insane. Wouldn't they want to maximize the cash flow on their investment? I really don't understand this. As it is, they're just getting a trickle of the revenue these tracks can generate.

because SC STILL is trying to control how the material is used. They wanted a proprietary format ALL along. Something that works only on their chosen players.

Plus since they have been going after the home user for the last couple years, every computer in pretty much the world has the capability to play the wmv format without any special players or decoders - it's perfect for most home users..

It's also worth noting that the downloads have only been around since April of this year, whereas their cable TV on demand channel has been around for 3+ years. Just speculation but they probably got set up for video format from the start and are just recoding their existing video library. Also agree with Lonman, looks like they are after the home user market first.

They've stated this on their own forum for the last couple years.

Sigh.... The company is, the U.S. based host using them is not....but ok.

No Joe, JUST because a disc is made overseas doesn't make the disc illegal here. It's perfectly legal to do what they're doing. Otherwise they couldn't sell Zoom, Sunfly, Legends, and a host of other discs here.

Sound Choice links to a DJ/KJ software for downloading music and running shows. Then the software site links to a place to buy the downloads. But it isn't the karaoke channel. You would think if Sound Choice had legal downloads to sell than they would be promoting their own. Or am I missing something? I don't know the history of their KJ software as we are still disc based so I haven't been following it too closely.
