I'm a newbie, I never had a gig before. But I will have my first gig outside at a community garage sale on August 1st.
They have lately been having a folk group sing at this event, but this group is too booked to do again.
I offered to do a show for free, because they needed entertainment, and I need to practice.
My equipment is limited as I am still collecting stuff.
I have a Mackie ppm608 powered mixer which puts out 500x2 watts.
2 Tapco69 12" passive speakers rated at 250 watts.
2 Harbinger powered speakers rated at 180 watts.
A Sanken cdg player, and about 2,000 songs approximatly.
I don't have a small tv, all I have is a 32 inch lcd.
Also I don't have any speaker stands yet.
My questions are...
What is the best way to go about having a good show outside with this equipment limitations, and I am concerned about being able to see the screen outside (there is a lot of shade, it will be during the day).
What about speaker placement?, and volume levels?

Welcome on board! I'm sure you'll find some great advice but to be honest, my only concern is the power of your powered mixer  The 500w is peak and from what I saw is that it's only 150w cont. @ 8 ohms  That's not much for outside and I would worry about damaging your speakers :!: You might be forced to over power the amp and therefore push it to distort, speakers do not tolerate distortion and it's the number one cause for damaging the speakers

It looks like your right!
I just looked in the manual, and it says 2 x 250 w rms, 1% thd @ 4 ohms, and
and 2 x 150 w rms, @ 8 ohms .
So in other words if I only have 8 ohm speakers( which I do),then all I can run continues is 150.
I feel disapointed because the sales guy tricked me.
So if I buy more speakers, then mabye I should go with powered ones.
Or is there 4 ohm speakers? which would work?

one of the main reason to go with powered speakers for a mobile DJ. Speakers and amp are already matched for you... and they sound great and are easy to move.

Sound isn't your only concern. What if it rains? What if its really hot? How are you getting your power?

I always require the following for an outside gig:

- A canopy large enough to cover my table and a place for people to sing... this also helps people see the monitor better and reduces glare.

- a dedicated circuit of at least 25amps. No air conditioner, refridgerator, washing machine, etc hooked into the same circuit.

let me also suggest that you bring with you a big fan to move the air around you to keep yourself cool.

DON'T FORGET YOUR TIP JAR!!!

Thanks for the tips.
A fan, great idea!, and check the amps, good thinking...and I will.
