Well, I've had a rash of MJ wannabes this week, screaming out versions of Billie Jean, P.Y.T., Beat it and Thriller. Kinda funny and sweet at the same time. I even got caught up in it belting out a tear jerking "You are Not Alone" at my Saturday show.
Anyone else getting a "spike" in MJ requests?

Yeah, we had some MJ requests and performances at our Thur. and Fri night gigs. Most of them were horrible but then again who can replicate Michael Jackson? At our Saturday night gig we had a "MJ tribute hour" and made a mega mix of some of his hits and slapped it on Compuhost. I must say, the dance floor was packed and we even had people doing the moonwalk, that "thriller" monster thing, etc. It worked out pretty well.
The wife and I tried our best to sing some MJ but didnt really pull it off.

Thursday night I had a real run on MJ. Practically everything I had. Which isn't much. Normally he isn't sung at all, and since I've only been at this three years I don't have a lot of things that aren't used. I didn't even have "Thriller", which was requested at least a half dozen times.
By Friday and Saturday the run was winding down. And that's the thing. The personal life he led made him an artist no one wanted to sing. Not even in my very tolerant group of singers. But now that he's no longer with us that may change. I'll bet his music will be remembered more than the person he was, and singers won't be embarassed to get up and do a Michael Jackson song once in a while. Those who can actually pull it off - not the easiest thing to do. And I am picking up "Thriller" this week.

Oh Yeah, been getting many requests this week from people all over the world here in hawaii, most notably the japanese who idolize MJ.
The most requested song has been Black or White, then Billie Jean, Thriller, Heal The World, Man In The Mirror, Rock With You, and Beat It.
At the end of my show i usually rock promo only music videos but this week it's been all MJ videos which has gone over very well with the staff and customers, they all seem glued to the tvs, like they may never see it again.
What an incredible talent and giver he was... despite his personal problems and allegations... RIP MJ.

I had a few sung Friday and Saturday. I have to say it is quite entertaining when people try to dance like him.

I had a guy show up on Thursday night with a surgical glove on his right hand - I could NOT believe it. He put "Beat It" up but then chickened out. This guy has an amazing sense of humor and has the crowd in stitches every time he sings because he has the uncanny ability to read a crowd and change the lyrics. Anyway, I made him attempt the "Beat It" and joined in. That was the only MJ song requested at either of my shows. His stuff is DIFFICULT! Most men don't have the range. I wonder if there's a female equivalent to MJ? I LOVE the music and it's great to sing. RIP, MJ.

I have the range, just an octave too low.

I have a high voice, but I still have to take it down one to even attempt it. I can usually get a laugh or two with some additional "Hee Hees" and "Uh!"

I have done 3 shows since he died, and only one MJ songs has been requested, but not sung because they put it in 5 mins b4 quitting time. Guess people in my area didn't really like the child molester that much. About the only time any MJ songs ever got sung and/or played was "Thriller" on Halloween.

Before Thurs I got a handful of songs sung, mainly Beat It, Don't Stop Til You Get Enough, Man In The Mirror & Do You Remember fairly regular. Since then I have heard Thriller, Billie Jean & You Are Not Alone, but not much more. I did have a request a couple weeks back for Wanna Be Starting Something which I just got today, so this one may become played as well.

I have never sung Michael jackson before- but had a feeling we'd get some requests at Saturdays show(even if it is mainly a jazz show). It's not karaoke- but a live band situation- but it would still reflect the same requests as a karaoke show regarding MJ so I thought I'd put my 2 cents in. Sure nuf we got requests for every michael jackson song ever done!! I did "shake you body down to the ground", "rock with you" and "don't stop till you get enough" those went over GREAT- I even did "never can say goodbye" and "i'll be there" those were also pretty dran good...but when we 'went there' with ABC, and Billie jean...welll even though the crowd was dancing and all...well...we REALLY shouldn't have "gone there" ! And I KNEW better that to try "beat it" or "thriller" ...another one we got a request for- but too late to do was "she's out of my life" an "got to be there" I'm working on those to have in my repertoire.
The man had some great songs! I do think it's sad that he had to die for his stuff to be mainstrem again. I also think it's sad that someone so blessed with musical gifts- should be so cursed otherwise. He was never comfortable in his own skin-literally...I believe he's a great example of how pushing a child in those formative years can twerp them into something nature never intended. He spent th rest of his life twerping himself into some weird mold only he knew the design of. I sincerely hope he is more remembered for his music than all the other stuff. And I also sincerely hope that he has at last found the peace that eluded him while he was alive.

I sure am...especially at the private parties. On Saturday I had a bunch of people do an impromptu tribute. Five MJ songs sung in a row.

Ya know, its been my observation, that regardless of childhood, people like Michael Jackson... gifted with so much natural talent, and an intense drive and energy burn brightly for only a short time, but leave their mark on us forever.
He leaves behind a legacy of great music that will be remembered long after the tabloid fodder is forgotten.
RIP Michael Jackson

I announced it at my Thursday show. No one sang any of his music. I've never tried it but I may.
I grew up with him. Sometimes feels side by side. I loved the Jackson 5. I remember when he did Ben for the movie (I read the book). Then the late 70's stuff he did. Of course Thriller was it. Wasn't a big fan of anything he did after that but I did like the song Bad. He was an incredible performer and no one can ever take that away from him. He gave millions away to worthwhile causes. He didn't have to do that. He also helped raise millions more. Will any of us ever know what it was like to live in the little goldfish bowl?
Cheers to you Michael.

Not running a karaoke show, but at my two car show gigs I DJed at, the requests came in for MJ songs. I knew these wags weren't serious...so I said no.
