Post subject:  Karaoke machines
[font=Verdana] My daughter works in a Senior Care Facility and would like to do small shows for the residents. What would you recommend in the way of a karaoke machine, basically for home use? Something not too expensive as she has a very tight budget. She wouldn't be doing any clubs so she just needs a small system.

Recently the facility had booked a “professional entertainer” at $200 for a one hour performance. He was over an hour late so my daughter took a mic and sang along with the CD’s they had to entertain the folks until he finally arrived. Sometimes, she does the Sunday service if they don’t have a volunteer minister available, and as she doesn’t play piano or organ she could use the machine for the singing part of the service.

So if anyone out there has experience with the type of system mentioned above, and can make a recommendation, please post. Thanks. [/font]

This lady tried to recruit me to do such shows in the past. She was using just one of those $100 DVD karaoke players and a boom box. I didn't do it because I spent the money building my system, so I wanted to use it. It would have been overkill. It depends what you want to pay, like I said such show doesn't require much. I would try one of the sponsor sites, and click on their all-in-one section. Ace has a RSQ all in one for $350, the cheapest one I would call semi-home-pro. They have cheaper and more expensive. Check them or one of the other sponsors out.

Though I would never use VocoPro professionally, They make what I consider to be the best all-in-one out there- The VocoPro Duet II. All the bells and whistles, self contained, and enough power for your use.

I have seen one used quite well in a Woodcliff Lake, NJ senior facility, and was impressed.

Easy to use for a non-pro, all effects, plus the ability to record built in. Can also be used as FM radio, regulat CD and tape player, or connected to another source.

This would be at the top of my list for this purpose....
