Ok finally got a new set of speakers to replace the 2 Kam IMS PRO15's i have http://www.prosound-dj.com/pro15-speaker-p-685.html I got 2 EV SX300's http://www.electrovoice.com/products/202.html Now the queston is ive no more money to spen and not sure ill get that much for the 2 Kams,if the tweter was disconnected on the kams could they be setup and work as a sub as they are a 15" speaker? they have 2 speakons on the back as have the EV sx300s. Also I have a driverack PA and the amp is a Behringer EP2500 so how would i go about connecting and setting up if it was all possible?

You could certainly do that, although the cabinet itself is not tuned to be a sub so it wouldn't be efficient as one. You would definitely want to play with the crossover points on the dbx to find the sweet spot. And you would want to use a separate amp for them as well. It is possible to run the mains on one channel of the amp & the subs on the other channel.

Even if the tweets were still connected you just send the sub frequencies below 120hz or below 100 hz to the old speakers. Set the drive rack with a low cut of 50hz going to the old speakers and you'll get a bit better performance because those speakers probably can't reproduce frequencies below 50hz anyways.. High pass frequencies above whatever you set the sub frequency and send that to your Sx300 speakers so they won't be trying to duplicate the low frequencies. 20khz-120hz to the tops, 120hz-50hz to the "subs". If they blow out eventually just replace the low frequency drivers with some decent 15" speakers, but that will cost you somewhere around $100-$200 EACH for good ones. Try to get Peavey Black Widows, they're really good and will last a long time if properly used.

Thanks Lonman m8 just an idea at the min ,but will give the SX300s a go friday night in place of the Kams its not a huge place so we will see how we go,should hopefull notice a good differance.

You would get a better overall sound by using your DriveRock PA to run all 4 speakers in a full-range setup. I run my setup this way, and it sounds great. Feed the highs and mids to your new speakers, and just the lows to your old speakers. You wouldn't have to disable or re-wire anything. Also, the old speakers wouldn't be serving as "subs," but would be serving to handle all of the low frequencies of a full-range setup. Thus, your highs and mids would be more efficient and better quality, and your lows would be more efficient, and better quality.

As Lon says... Without ported cabs, you will get the frequencies you want, but you will probably loose punch & volume.

Putting your old speakers on the floor will definitely make your sound fuller. Floor coupling really helps. Not a true sub experience but worthwhile IMO. I'd do it.

As has been suggested, the cabinet design is probably more important than the driver. What makes a sub a sub is that it has a speaker not only capable of reproducing lower frequencies, both electronically and mechanically. Then placing the speaker in a box optimally tuned for lower frequencies. Simply feeding a speaker lower frequencies doesn't make it a sub. If your 15" speaker has at least a three inch voice coil (four inch would be better for heat reasons)it may be possible to build yourself a different cabinet and make use of them as a sub. Boxplot is a shareware program that will give you an idea of what building a properly tuned box may entail. Who know's you might have a little fun in the process.

As has been said already, though, the box tuning for your old full-range boxes is too high for them to be effective subs. If you take a driver+box combo that is meant to roll off at 55Hz and start driving it hard to 35Hz, not only will it sound crappy, but you will also damage the driver.

i think from all the info its going be more trouble than its really worth ,it was really just an idea ,but just been to set the new speaker up and it was great carried both in at once no sweating then struggled carring one of the others out ,so i think ill get them sold then when funds allow go for 2 ev sb122 subs they the same weight and size to the sx300s, And by the way even though the sx300s alot smaller trhere seems just as much bass as my old heavy 15" kams. Thanks for all the advice guys.
