I'm looking for a listing of Karaoke bars and clubs. I know my local ones, but sometimes we go on vacation and would like to find a place. I was thinking of doing a last minute trip for the Fourth of July weekend. Haven't decided where to go but it will be somewhere within 2 hours of Boston. Maybe New Hampshire or Rhode Island. Can't decide, but a nice Karaoke place (Friday and/or Saturday) would sway my opinion on where to go.

Any ideas on where I can find a list or if you have any suggestions in the MA, NH and RI area (or Connecticut and Maine)? I have Googled but I thought there might be a better way with a more comprehensive list.

Thanks folks!

I find asking the employees that work at the hotel I'm staying at helpful that is if there isn't any friends on KS working in the area.

I am a frequent traveler, and have found no real comprehensive and good site.

The one on this site is terrible -- don't bother with it. (I have offered to help fix it, but no takers.)

karaokelistings.com has some things. They are getting more out of date over time, as gigs go away and the people who entered them don't remove them. But I have found quite a few shows on their site.

You can google "city karaoke" and that will sometimes come up with a good listing. For instance, when I googled Philadelphia I found an excellent, up-to-date listing. I also submitted corrections as I visited the venues over my week's stay -- you can help these things by sending updated info.

But if you are going to a city of any size at all, by far the best method of finding karaoke is to identify the local entertainment paper. Sometimes you can do this online, but usually you can ask at your hotel desk or go to the local grocery store and find it. Once you have this, they will almost always have a listing of local music and karaoke. They won't have all the gigs out there, but they will usually have quite a few and will be up to date.

Lastly, you can post here about a region and ask for input. I am about to do that on two trips I am taking -- Southwestern Michigan and San Antonio. They might be able to point you to a web-based entertainment paper.

MCKYJ57,

A pretty good option you can do to find a Karaoke place for an upcoming trip is to go to TripAdvisor.com. This will work best if you have several days advance notice (which is why it is not really an option for me at this point). I think you would have to register, which is free.

If you are a frequent traveller, this is an excellent site for all things travel. Their forums are by state and can be refined by city. They usually have local area experts that will respond to any inquiries, as well as anyone else who is reading and is familiar with the area. You can go to the forum for wherever you are going and ask for where there might be any Karaoke venues. You can also get recomendations on restaurants, hotels, entertainment and pretty much anything. I highly recommend the site.

Just a thought: Wouldn't it be a good idea if they had a Karaoke venue forum on this site? Then all the members could reference the places they have been and maybe include a little review and information about the place (dive bar, upscale, crowded, older crowd, rowdy crowd, etc.).

What could I do to suggest this?

It would be nice, but it would require some work and I gather not a lot of that is going on right now.

I have toyed with the idea of creating a karaoke-forum user site that could be used as a supplement, but the site owners here don't appear to have any interest in improving/expanding.

Yeah, but there is no traffic for the types of places you need the most info for. I went and looked for my current destinations, and nothing. (Edit: That's wrong. I did find some info and have posted a question about St. Joseph.)

I will try registering. I do travel a lot, and if they have a good travel agent function I could be stolen away from Expedia without too much trouble.

The listings in the Los Angeles printed Karaoke Scene are also out of date. They have old gigs of mine that are no longer going, and I removed them. I have gone to places listed in it that haven't had karaoke in 6 years. I have emailed the mag with info reguarding venues listed that do not have karaoke. All these listings are still there today.

When I travel I do like Babs. I ask the hotel staff. I have gotten a few nice suprises.
