Post subject:  Interesting Night

Last Thursday night I started my gig without a hitch, about 1 hour into the night all of a sudden my system STOPS and the emergency light above my head goes on ?!
I look around and the many tvs in the place are on as are the lights ??? A little confused I start looking at my AMP when all of a sudden the amp goes back on and the music continues ? ABout 30 seconds later my system (AMP) shuts down again and the music stops. I walk over to the manager and say ...I think we have a problem :o :o :o .... She says...Its probably just the electrical breaker.  :o Next think I know I look out the window and the POLE outside which holds the electrical transformer is SPARKING and POPPING ...... SO I go outside and look and the electrical box on the side of the building and the building itself are ON FIRE   ....SMOKE starts to fill the bar as people begin running out ..the manager had a fire extinquisher and starts to put out the fire ...I GRABBED my laptop and hardrives ( didn't have time to pack anything else up ). Bottom line ... The electric company came down and shut the power off to the entire strip mall ( about 6 restaurants ) all weekend !!!
They won't be able to look at it until TUESDAY !!!! Man the money they must have lost being 4th of July weekend . I was able to pack everything up and nothing was damaged (luckily) I'll have to wait and see if Thursday will be up and running !!!

LOL @ johnny. There is such thing as a too hot mic! "Interesting" is the understatement. I'm beginning to realize when I see Interesting Night in the thread title it could mean bullets or bonfires.

Out here right now there is thunderstorms and heavy lightning. In severe storms we shut down and unplug everything.

As a CE I had some experiences with storms taking out a TV transmitter. One burned up a 3 phase 40 horse blower motor and we were offline for 6 hours. It is nothing to mess with just shutdown for awhile...
