Anyone want to seriously guesstimate the number of KJs in the USA (think of all the bars, lounges, restaurants, etc). They're everywhere!!! I know in my relatively small area there are 15-20 KJs or so, and for every one of us, there are probably two more with setups that would take a gig if they could get one/keep one.

I'll open the bidding at 187,405 KJs in the USA.

My town/metro area of about 200k people has to my knowledge about 10 active KJs (weekly shows or more) and probably about 3 times as many occasional KJs that were active in the recent past 2-3 years or do occasional shows. In my number I am counting karaoke rigs, not DJs as some shows run with more than one KJ, or have multiple substitute KJs or the Karaoke is run by whatever bartender is on that night (and the bar owns the rig).

Since I am in a college town with a lot of young people and an active night life/music scene, I suspect that my town is about double the national average.

That would come to 1 per 10,000 peoople or about 30,000 KJs in the country of which only about 7,000 would be "active" and probably only about 500 where it is their primary job, and not a hobby/part time gig (I do not count full time DJs who do Karaoke on the side in the 500 estimate).

I suspect that there are probably about 20 times that number of "home" setups or about 600,000 home setups nationwide. Most of the home setups are either a magic mic, or similar discount device or less than 500 songs (or totally pirate).
