Post subject: | Installing Pro Tools 7.4 |
I have just assembled a new 'puter running an Intel core2 quad processor, 4Gigs of DDR2, running a SATA2 drive (using the old ATA as a slave). The MB is a Gigabyte EG41M-S2H. Like most home recording enthusiasts, I decided to stay with XP Pro! BTW, the Soundcard is by M-Audio, which of course is Pro Tools compatible. All systems seemed A-ok until I tried running my Pro Tools 7.4 installer (which installed perfectly on my older machine running XP Pro and ATA drives). Has anybody had a similar problem with Pro Tools? Could this have to do with the SATA2? Any help would be much appreciated. Ron |

Ron Well you don't give us much to go on as far as the specific error you're encountering, but here are a few things to consider. Are you running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows XP Pro. ProTools 7.4 does not support x64 versions of XP. You said you've got multiple drives on an ATA controller. They're not configured in a RAID Array of any type are they, ProTools doesn't play nice with RAID drives. As far as the SATA-II not sure what to think there. I know a guy who's running 7.3 on a machine with a couple SATA-II drives. If the above information doesn't help, give us more details on exactly what you're encountering when you try to install pro-tools. |

Thanks for you input, Tony. I am running the 32 bit XP. The installer just won't start and only results in the standard Windows error message offering to inform MS about it! The report itself is gibberish! The same 7.4 installation runs smoothly on my old Compaq running the same OS. I even swapped CD drives... in case the one in the new machine might have a problem reading the disk. Cheers! Ron |

All fixed! Though I had all the Windows updates in, I had to manually install one of them on the new C drive. It works like a charm and recognized all my plug-ins, too! Ron |
