Hey all! This is my first post here but after reading around the forums I may become a regular =)
So here is my issue. I had books professionally printed about 2 years ago. They are great books, nice cover with our sponsors on it, very nice layout. Well, I just moved from Wisconsin to Florida to start a business down here and we've blown up to where I found myself ordering 2 more sets of equipment today. In the mist of it all I realized that I need to order more books. The company I ordered from still has all the old files they used before but I would like to update it since it is after all 2 years old. The problem is that all my disks are still in wisconsin at my house there and it would be pretty expensive and time consuming to have them shipped here. Is there a software that will read my hard drive where my karaoke files are located and pull the ID tags with the artist and title WITHOUT having to insert every single cd?
I thank you all in advance for any advice you may have.
*edit*
One more quick question, we RARELY play regular music files, we play mp4 music videos on big screen tv's when people aren't singing... right now I have it setup so when there is no video or no karaoke singer (the odd chance we are playing an mp3) I have our logo and contact information and stuff running as a slideshow on the screens... 90% of the time I forget to hit 'Slideshow' in the effect controller in Virtual DJ so I was wondering if anyone knew how to make that logo the default background for Virtual DJ when no effects, videos, or karaoke are being played?

A little more information would help. Do you use a hosting program, and if you do, which one? What format are your songs stored in, mp3+g, wma? How many songs are you talking about?

Hmm....three sets of equipment, one hard drive, and the disks are stuck thousands of miles away with no hope of sending them to FL.
"We have everything from the 40's to the hottest new tracks available!"
"We also offer the most up-to-date karaoke library on the gulf coast as well as THE LARGEST MUSIC VIDEO LIBRARY AROUND! "
I'm not sure music videos are covered under standard ASCAP/BMI. Some friends of mine in a band that played unlicenced music videos during their show just lost an $18,000 judgement. Just FYI.

We used PCDJ for years, but now we use Virtual DJ, it has the best music video interface that I've found. I didn't say I only had one hard drive nor did I say I only had 3 sets of equipment ..... We have a set here in Florida, just ordered 2 more, and also still have 2 DJ's covering 9 shows a week in Wisconsin. The songs are all mp3+g and there are roughly 20,000.

By the way... Promo Only is 100% legal music videos, so is djvideosource.com ... so is http://www.buykaraokedownloads.com which would lead to not having every single karaoke file on cd ... Anything else for me to justify?

*Knee jerk*
Either way, the moral of the story is you need to have those discs readily available to run a legal karaoke show anyway, so my advise would be to have them shipped down.
Another good idea would be to get a program like KJ Pro and keep your library updated so it is always easy to make books for all of your rigs and shows.
As far as your original question, I have heard people who have MS Excel formulas that will make you Excel books using your track info. I don't know how that works, but I do remember there was someone on the board who had accomplished it.

I use Fasttracks V2 Songbook Creator. Since you have the music in mp3+g zip files, I believe that you could purchase Fasttracks, and import all of the files. I use Compuhost in conjunction with Fasttracks, and it's a click of the mouse. You can download a trial version. Good luck "Snowbird", I'm still here in Wisconsin.

Huh? How in the world does that go on?
I got my books all done in word. You're welcome to a copy of those if it saves you some time. They are mostly UK discs tho.

"my hard drive where my karaoke files are located "
I have to ask cause I know others are thinking this. If you are downloading from a "legal site" and you are adding 2 more systems, are you going to download and pay for the song again for each system or are you just going to copy your original downloaded file to each additional system? How have you done it with the other systems you have back up north? Btw welcome to our forum!

As for library files, I use Excel, handtyped in to ensure everything is right from song titles to artists (spellings etc). Once new music is added, I email the files to myself. This way they files are on my home computer, laptop, and cyberspace.

Bought Latshaw's Song List Generator. Liking it so far. And yes, I did copy them to my other hard drives. You don't have to buy multiple licenses unless you are going to distribute it (distribution is illegal unless your authorized).

Another misconception. Yes you do need to purchase a library for each system in use. Copying 1 hard drive for use with multiple systems at once is called multi rigging & is very illegal (provided the original hard drive is legal in the first place). Not trying to start anything, but you seem to be greatly misinformed.

While you might be a great DJ and KJ host, it sounds like you are operating way outside the law when it comes to your cdg collection. The black and white of this is that it is not legal to copy your factory original cdgs and make copies to another harddrives (and it sounds like you are doing this to several hardrives) that are in a location other than the original discs/hardrive aka 1:1 ratio. What you are doing whether you are selling them or not is distribution. One disc, one license, no exception. Sorry, I don't make the rules.
If you are getting advise that this is legal, I suggest you get better advise.

if you are getting revenue from multiple sources, you must have multiple licenses, or multiple discs, paid for. Otherwise it's not legal... not even close. With one license, you have the rights to ONE library.
