I couldn't believe it. Not only was the layout and language of my site taken, but this guy didn't even care if he stole my image bandwidth too, rather than downloading it to his own website. Here's my page. Here's his page. Am I crazy that someone would have the cajones to do this? |

Dan, Don't want to get in the middle of a war, but I remember the original thread. Check the thread for Advertising (last post this forum, Aug 17), Ollie let you know what he had done. He asked if you minded his taking your page and reworking it to his needs and said that he owed you a 12 pack. I can't imagine the bandwidth thing was deliberate. Maybe a simple misunderstanding? Karen, thanks for reminding me about that thread. I know that I shared that web page (posted as a Craigslist ad) with the group. I didn't keep up with the thread to see subsequent comments, but I reviewed it just now.
Where was I asked for my permission in that thread? Where did I agree to the use of my verbiage and images in that thread? If there's something I missed, I'll certainly apologize. As one of the things I do professionally is write and design websites, I've been retained by other DJs and KJs to help them optimize their sites. And my bandwidth too? Really? |

Hi Dan, This was posted July 28 at 1:19 pm, I think it could be interprated (SP) as sorta asking permission.... [quote]Dan I hope you dont mind me copying your ad... I did tailor it for my use.. I owe you a 12 pack.. Smile Here is mine..... link[quote] He may have taken your lack of response as implied permission. Did he jump the gun? I'll give you that, he should have sent you a pm when you didn't get back to him. While I don't know Ollie, from what I've seen on the forums, I don't think the bandwidth issue was deliberate, more just careless excitement in getting the ad posted. Probably miscommunication more than anything else. Karen |

Sorry, but I don't equate a "no answer" with a "yes".... "No answer" means "no" there has to be EXPRESS PERMISSION, not implied permission. |

Sorry Dan but I'm not using your bandwidth. Those are my photos. The only thing copied is the verbage which I will change when I get the chance. |

The best thing to do if someone is hotlinking your images is rename the original images on your server and update the html that calls for them on your pages, then create new images with the original names with text saying "please do not steal images from www .my-site. com". These messages will then display on his site until he goes & gets his own. |

Those are my photos. I am not hotlinking images other than the spinning stars and they are on a separate web site. All you have to do is right click on them and get the properties. |

Oops, I don't want to get in the middle of a fight here, just a suggestion about hotlinking. |

I agree. Hotlinking is an easy and quick thing to fix if or when it happens. |

Which photos are the same, I saw nothing of the same pics. As far as the layout, yes I saw that. But as stated it was already stated that he wanted to use your layout. |

I'm confused.... What's a BANDWIDTH? |

Post subject: | Re: KJ stole my web page! |
Bandwidth is the amount of data transfer a server can handle. Hot linking to photos on other servers uses their bandwidth. My server is Bluehost and as you can see I have unlimited file transfer. Hotlinking is not my MO. |

I remember that thread Dan, I knew something bad was bound to happen. THAT is EXACTLY why I don't use my company name here, and don't direct people here to my website. I simply discuss the vendors and services I work with and my experiences. I don't discuss where I do my shows or what my business name is on this forum. Sometimes being anonymous is best. |

I think you are over jumping the gun here. Yes...there are similar things, but far from an "exact" copy. It looks like a quick copy, quick change..site it up, kind of thing. I wouldn't be offended by this at all....Now if it was "your" pics, I would say hey...what the &$&*#!, but that's about it. I've got more important things to worry about. Want to copy my business card? MrD |
