Has anyone done this or tried it? How's it work out?

I've got a mind to do it, but some of the technical aspects escape me. Not to insert a tech question here (but I am):

At home I've got a wii . I would like to use a console over the PC as the system requirements for the PC are insane, and I read that there is still some lag with the songs.

I've got an A/B/C/D A/V switch so hooking it into the system is easy except for the microphones. I'm using the REC out for my PC interface. How do I also get it to the game... and will that even work??

Nope, wouldn't add it. It is a solitary event - think about how long you can watch someone else play this game.

Ah... I didn't add in my "GH Rules" :D

1. Players are added to the rotation at the host's discretion not by submission (i.e. not multiple in a row)

2. Only in quickplay mode, at the level you select. If you get booed off you're done. Sit down. No redos until your next turn.

3. you MUST be available BEFORE the previous performer is finished. The host will annouce when you are coming up. If you're not available at that time you WILL be skipped.

This is supposed to be a "break" in the action not dominate it. I have a young crowd at my gigs, so I think it will be successful without pissing on the karaoke crowd. Having another way to draw some folks in that may not sing is a good thing.

One place that I know of actually does Rock Band and honestly? it angered the karaoke people. If you dedicate a night just for it, not a bad thing, but not a good idea mixed into a karaoke night. I attended the show once while they played Rock Band until almost 10:30, and then the host decided to set up for karaoke. About 11 is when it started as a karaoke show. In my opinion, the host just loved to hear himself was the problem, he played with every song, sang on a fourth of them. Almost every person who was there to sing karaoke, wanted to smack the holy crap right out of the host. Including me. Will never go to that show EVER again, even if they actually do get rid of this guy. That's how much difference there is between Rock Band/Guitar Hero and karaoke people. Just my little opinion is all.

Sounds like the host was an idiot, and I think the crowd makes a difference too. I go with my gut on a lot of things, and 90% of time I'm right... or I'm semi-roght and I have to tweak to make something work. I honestly believe that it could work as long as it was an occasional thing... and IMHO 1 or 2 GH songs in a rotation, spaced evenly won't tork most folks, and actually provide entertainment value. The horrible guy will get "booed off" in 30 seconds... Which takes me rule 4) You must play on hard or expert. :reddevil: so there will be entertainment value either way. Booed off quickly... funny. Able to play through the entire song... cool... plus there is still an option for someone to sing the song too!

Let us know how it goes, I just don't see it working at a karaoke show.

Do you go to a Buffalo Wings in North Texas by chance? There's this guy who says "This is not a karaoke bar, he's not a KJ, he's the entertainment" but when I mentioned that it says Karaoke on the flyer, meh, I was basically dismissed with that question. This guy even has a camera that shows the singer and he can type witty remarks on that screen about the singers.

I test marketed guitar hero about two years ago. The findings: Max involvement (4), Crowd Participation (Low), Increase In Sales (-5%) yes thats right sales decreased over a 4 week period. Increased advertising budget to promote something most people do at home. The only difference between WII and Guitar Hero is most people go and buy a WII for home the next day.
Today there are some local venues trying this again and the results are still the same.

We caught a gig like this awhile back, maybe 2yrs. The bar had the patrons in the 20's as well as us in the 40's and older. It was the younger ones playing. We didn't particularly care for it, and it didn't look like the bar did either all that much. It got kinda boring pretty quick. Matter of fact, we haven't been back, not that it was a regular stomping ground. But it was because of the Guitar Hero. The guitar hero just turned into background noise. I know karaoke can also, but it was unexplainably different. It lacked entertainment and fun for the audience. There weren't as many selections then, so you're hearing GH songs back to back, but I know there's more selection now which may help. Maybe if the KJ split it up better, who knows.

All in all though, I agree with mrscott. Set a seperate night for it. If it doesn't go well be prepared with karaoke as a backup.

I'll try and stop back there in the next week or two and give an update.

I say if you already have a succesful "karaoke nght" - defined as a constant rotation of maybe 8 or more people ..don't add the GH --Don't fix something that's not broke!! :!: :!: But on the other hand if your rotation is on the small side and you get the "feel" that something is needed to break up the same singers singing every 5 minutes It may WORK .... You'll definately need a younger crowd ( 20's - 30's) to make it work ...I'm older and love to play it but generally speaking, I suggest that you will need a large screen for the crowd to view ---having a small screen for just the participant ..WILL NOT WORK

Good luck and let us know how it goes
