Hello my question is about speakers , I want to buy a set or speakers that can be used for karaoke as well as music DJ ing .can you give some brands i can look for ? I heard karaoke speakers differ from DJ MUSIC speakers so i want to make sure i can offer the best sound for both venues without buying seperate speaker sets. thank you |

Passive: Mackie Peavey JBL Carvin Cerwin Vega Yamaha Active: Mackie Carvin B-52 ISP Technologies I'll be using powered ISP Tripower 900 mains and powered B-52 ACT 18 Subs. I'm thinking of adding a pair of Carvin powered 1584A's or 1588A's down the road somewhere. |

Active speakers have the amps built in whereas with passive speakers you require an amp. Active - plug power cord into an electrical outlet and plug in sound cable from your non-powered mixing board. Passive - Plug sound cable from board into the amp and then sound wires to the speakers. Amp plugs into the electrical outlet. You will get various opinions on each setup. I prefer powered and use a Yorkville system (they also make fabulous passive systems). Amps are made for the speakers and you get a great crisp sound. But the biggest advantage is that if one speaker decides to breakdown you can continue on with the other speaker. Whereas, using a passive system, if the amp breaks down, shows over. Yes people say carry an extra amp but with builtin amps you save lugging around an extra amount of weight. Most active speakers weigh between 38lbs for Yorkville NX520s to 48 lbs for Mackie 450s. We also use sub-woofers (bass bins) that are also powered. |
