Can anyone tell me what the future of karoke looks like. I've been thinking about buying a used system with the CDG's, but am worried that technology will be going the way of MP3 and that I will be throwing my money away. The system I'm looking at has 175 name brand CDG's , two Peavy 15" speakers with stands, 13" tv with stand, a small Yamaha mixing board, Numark dual cdg player, 8 space rack, two mics, song book, ect.. All for $1,100.00. Any advice?

That's worth it just for the CDGs. If you want to computerize your setup, you can do that. You will not be wasting money by purchasing that music library.

I totally agree. You still need the original discs to switch to computer.

The future is karaoke on a hard drive. Discs will fade away.

Keep the system invest in an rca switchbox and you can also play outside discs on your player.

I think it mostly depends on what those 175 disc are. I know you said "name brand" but that means nothing without knowing brands/titles. And which model mixers, speakers, mics?

It doesn't sound like a bad deal for a starter setup, just make sure everything works if you decide to buy. See if they'll take less $$$.

The future of karaoke is definitely computer but I just like the idea of owning an original copy of everything on my hard drive. Gives me a warm and fuzzy(and legal) feeling.

If you mean does karaoke still have a future? Yes. Karaoke is still a big money maker for bars. It's not going anywhere fast. Discs might but bars will still do karaoke as a money making form of entertainment.

If i had any KJs in my area selling $1000 systems i would snatch up everyone of them to eliminate more competition. I did that before but spent a lot more money. I bought one for $5000 and fixed it up and sold it for $15,000. Good return on my investment. Show me the money.
